After our release of Jason and the Argonauts, we once again team up with Simon Boswell to bring out an expanded edition of Lord of Illusions, Clive Barker’s third outing as a director, the 1995 noir horror film starring Scott Bakula and Famke Janssen. Clive Barker's 1995 cross-genre experiment mixes element of supernatural horrors with the style of film noir; this duality is also present in Simon's music. The score's previous release only had about half an hour of score mixed with dialogue excerpts and songs. Officially licensed from MGM and produced in collaboration with the composer, this album features the complete score. Our two CD release contains the complete underscore from the composer's own DAT tapes on the first disc. The second disc is a rare treat for film score fans: we present Simon's original demos for the film in addition to several bonus tracks that highlight different aspects of the film scoring trade. Liner notes by Gergely Hubai discuss the film and the score. The booklet is richly illustrated with never-before-scene sketches and production art, kindly provided by storyboard artist Martin Mercer and production designer Steve Hardie.

Disc One contains the complete music in film order, while on Disc 2 you’ll hear the demo versions Simon Boswell composed and recorded for the director to use as temp tracks during post-production while there was still no finished score to be used.

Since MGM didn’t have any musical elements in their vault, we had to make use of the DATs the composer had in his possession that were run off from a tape, which was recorded during the recording sessions in Seattle. Inexplicably, half of these tracks are in mono, a fact Simon himself couldn’t make sense of.

We were already too far into the production to stop now, so we decided to do the following: Release the album in a mix of mono and stereo cues intermingled, but in film order. For those of you, who prefer stereo, we are making available a “fake” stereo version on CDR that you can have added to your order at no additional cost. This CDR will be shipped to you along with the album IF YOU SPECIFY SO ON THE ORDER PAGE. If you decide to get the fake stereo CDR at a later time, you will be charged a shipping and handling fee of $5.00. Personally, I don’t like the fake stereo dynamic, but we thought we’d make this option available to those of you, who do prefer it.

This double CD is offered at the special price of $19.95. We want to present this at the reduced cost, because we believe that charging more would be unfair. It is our mission to offer you our CDs for less than the now-common, limited edition prices of almost twenty dollars (unless it is a double CD or an album that was expensive to produce). As you all know, the majority of double CD releases sell for $24-29.95 so we wanted to offer this release at what amounts to the typical single disc, limited edition price. But remember: We are still paying royalties on $19.95.

Ich habe keinerlei Interesse an dieser Veröffentlichung, muss aber neidlos zugeben, dass Robin hier eine vorbildliche Informationspolitik und Offenheit zeigt.

Ich kenne die Musik zwar nicht, aber ich weiß, dass die alte Erstauflage für Unsummen gehandelt wurde...

Ich habe die alte CD seit Jahren und auch schon ewig nicht mehr gehört. Wenn ich mal so bei Amazon oder SAE schaue, sind die Unsummen gar nicht so hoch, aber vielleicht war das mal anders. Als Barker-Fan werde ich mir wohl die Doppel-CD auch holen.

ach war ganz ok der Score, Film ging auch nur so... die Schwertshow hatte nen coolen Cue drunter... natürlich lobenswert so ehrlich zu sein, aber irgendwie is auch so die Frage wozu man überhaupt jeden Score rausbringen muss auf Teufel komm raus... statt den Synth Mock Ups hätt man sich hier ja ggfs über den alten CD Schnitt gefreut? und wie sowas mit mono passieren kann is ja schon ulkig, is Mancina bei Bad Boys ja auch passiert, aber gut, merken wird mans wahrscheinlich gar net...

Chris Young sollte erst den Score machen, der sprang aber ab, weil ihm das Musikbudget nicht ausreichte...

Wenn das hier nämlich besagter titel sein soll dann fände ich das schon etwas unspektakulär.

hmm ... die paar Sound-Clips klingen nicht schlecht, aber um mich entscheiden zu können bräuchte ich mehr Sound-Clips und nicht nur 3 x 30 Sekunden ... habe mir Jason and the Argonauts aus dem selben Grund nicht geholt, weil ich mir keine Katze mehr im Sack kaufen möchte. Der einzige Komponist, bei dem ich ungehört zuschlage ist nur noch Williams (früher habe ich das bei Horner auch gemacht, aber heutzutage ist man bei ihm auch lieber vorsichtig)
