Keine Roberto Orci-Regie beim dritten Teil

 

 

Firstly, yep, change the title in the headline to Star Trek 13 if you prefer. We remember The Search For Spock, too. Leonard Nimoy directed that one rather well.

Secondly though, it looks as if Paramount Pictures is changing course where its choice of director for the next Star Trek film is confirmed. News has broken this evening that Roberto Orci - who has co-scripted the last two films - will not be directing after all. He'd reportedly lobbied for the job, and was in line to make his feature directorial debut with the project. But it looks like he won't be the one replacing JJ Abrams on the bridge. Paramount hasn't confirmed this, but then it didn't ever announce he'd been appointed to direct either.

Orci will remain a producer on the film, but the search for a new director is on. Early candidates? Deadline is naming Edgar Wright (who, of course, shot a snippet of Star Trek Into Darkness), and Film Divider suggests, on its Twitter feed, that Rupert Wyatt (Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes) may well be a candidate too. It does note that that's a second hand rumour, though.

It's unclear at this stage why Orci won't be directing, but as Paramount will want to get the production moving in the first half of 2015, to hit a 2016 release date (thus marking the 50th anniversary of Star Trek), we'd expect more news soon.

Justin Lin macht den dritten Star Trek

 

The search for a Star Trek 3 director is over. Justin Lin, director of multiple Fast and Furious films as well as True Detective season 2, will helm the sci-fi sequel, tentatively set for release in 2016. He replaces Roberto Orci, who remains attached as a producer. Read more about Justin Lin Star Trek 3 below.

Deadline broke the news. Lin was on a list of directors we thought would make a great choice, and then officially on a short list. He’s now been offered the job.

Lin is currently directing a few episodes of True Detective for HBO. After that, he was supposed to do a new Bourne movie with Jeremy Renner, but that got postponed once Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon decided to return to the franchise. Rumor was Lin was then considering doing a few more Fast and Furious movies but that’s, obviously, not going to happen.

 

It’s those Fast and Furious movies that likely got Lin this job. They proved not only can he work with a huge ensemble and budget, it proves he has the ability to take a fledgeling franchise and pump it full of adrenaline. After 2 Fast 2 Furious, most thought the Fast and Furious franchise was dead. Lin’s first movie, Tokyo Drift, reinvented the series and became a decent little hit. But it was the fourth film, Fast and Furious the exploded it back into the stratosphere. Since then, he’s been somehow making the movies bigger and more exciting with each installment.

That’ll be Lin’s job on Star Trek 3. J.J. Abrams gave the franchise a great start, but the second film is largely disliked by fans of the franchise and first film. Paramount wants to make new Star Trek movies forever and they’ll need a big threequl, on the franchise’s 50th anniversary, to do that.

Naja, sehr viel blasser als die Giacchino-Scores kann es eigentlich gar nicht werden.

giacchino hatte eigentlich einige wirklich schöne thematische einfälle, vorallem im ersten film. leider ist tyler darin nicht gerade ein überflieger. die action wird bestimmt rocken, aber auf thematischer seite könnte es durchaus sehr blass werden.

Anderseits ist der Regisseur auch für die zweite Staffel der hochgelobten Serie "True Detective" im Einsatz

Würde mich echt interessieren was er daraus macht.

Mit Star Trek III hat er immerhin als einziger Komponist der Welt schon Erfahrung. :-)

Sollte sich dieses Gerücht bewahrheiten, wäre dies einfach nur sensationell. Endlich könnte es dann dort wieder weitergehen, wo es mit ENTERPRISE aufgehört hat!

Und wer weiss, vielleicht wird ja jetzt das Projekt "CAPTAIN WORF" von Michael Dorn oder ähnliches doch noch wahr! Und ich würde sogar eine Wette wagen, dass eine solche neue TNG-Serie locker Orcis dritter STAR TREK-Marvel-Trip schlagen würde. Denn im Gegensatz zu Dorn haben Orci und Co. keine wirklichen Ideen.

Das sehe ich auch so ... Aber FIRST CONTACT ist trotzdem ein verdamt guter Star Trek Film geworden! Der einzige der neuen Generation, den ich Dir uneingeschränkt empfehlen kann!

Sonst könnte ich mir doch gar kein Urteil erlauben.

Und genau wegen solcher Sätze wie: "Für mich gibt´s nur Kirk & Co.!" oder "Nur TNG war voll goil!" wird es eine neue Serie sobald nicht geben. Die meisten Leute hatten sich ja schon während DS9 und Voy von Star Trek entfernt und ENT lief ja von Anfang an praktisch unter Ausschluß der Öffentlichkeit. Ebenfalls waren die Blu-ray Verkaufszahlen von TNG weit von dem entfernt, was CBS sich erhofft hatte und die Reboot-Filme spielten auch nicht die erhofften Zahlen ein. Der gute Moonves wird sich das genau überlegen, wenn schon DIE Serie (TNG) nicht erflogreich auf Blu-ray war. Da wird es wohl auch kein DS9 oder Voy auf Blu-ray geben, da die Überarbeitung der beiden Serien CBS noch mehr kosten würde. Zudem laufen CBS-Serien überaus erfolgreich. Wieder Millionen Dollar in eine Sci-Fi Serie stecken, bei der keiner weiß, ob sie ein Erfolg wird? Glaube ich kaum. Eventuell startet CBS ja eine "Großoffensive" zum 50. Geburtstag, aber das werden wir erst in einem Jahr erfahren.

Ich wusste gar nicht, wozu ich fähig bin.

Muss gleich mal überlegen welche anderen langweiligen Serien ich zusätzlich verhindern könnte.

Wie kommst du denn darauf? Schon der erste der neuen Filme spielte 2009 alleine in den USA fast 260 Millionen Dollar ein und damit mehr, als die vorherigen drei Trek-Filme zusammen. Weltweit kamen sogar 385 Millionen Dollar zusammen. Bei STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS waren es weltweit sogar fast 470 Millionen Dollar. Und der dritte Reboot-Trek-Film steht schon in den Startlöchern. Es ist also eher das Gegenteil, so erfolgreich wie seit 2009 war STAR TREK im Kino noch nie (selbst inflationsbereinigt ist STAR TREK von 2009 der erfolgreichste TREK-Film).
