BUYSOUNDTRAX Records presents the original soundtrack to SHARKTOPUS, featuring music composed by Tom Hiel (SWIMMING WITH SHARKS, THE PRACTICE, DARK SIDE OF GENIUS) for the 2010 horror film directed by Declan O’Brien (ROCK MONSTER, CYCLOPS, WRONG TURN 3 & 4), written by Mike MacLean (DINOCROC VS. SUPERGATOR, PIRANHACONDA), produced by Roger Corman and starring Eric Roberts, Kerem Bursin, Sara Malakul Lane and Hector Jimenez.

Part of the SyFy Channel’s seemingly endless parade of killer critters and mega monsters, SHARKTOPUS was unleashed in 2010, staking its claim as perhaps a new pinnacle in its series of original monster mashes. SHARKTOPUS relays the ‘sensitive saga’ of a genetically combined octopus/great white shark hybrid, developed as a military weapon which, of course, escapes its handlers and travels to Mexico to show the world it isn’t like every other fish in the pond. Eric Roberts stars as Nathan Sands, the scientist responsible for creating the hybrid, he takes it upon himself to lead a team of fish bait to either retrieve or destroy his creation.

To score SHARKTOPUS, producer Roger Corman and director Declan O’Brien returned to composer Tom Hiel, who had already established a creative relationship after working together on ROCK MONSTER and CYCLOPS. Hiel’s score for SHARKTOPUS was produced using synthesizers and sampled symphonic WAVE files, which allowed the composer to closely replicate a live orchestral performance without the expense, emphasizing the synthesizer’s ability to create unique musical sounds.

Living and working in the Los Angeles area, Tom Hiel is an award winning composer for film and television. Hiel is originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he recorded and performed his original solo piano and synthesizer introspections at clubs, galleries and college campuses across the country. Hiel is best known for his underscore work for the television show, THE PRACTICE, for which he composed the music for 88 episodes from 2000 – 2004. Hiel was the recipient of the BMI Awards recognizing excellence in composing for film and television for the 2000 – 2001 and 2002 – 2003 seasons of THE PRACTICE. Hiel has also contributed additional music to feature films such as RED EYE and CURSED. His resume also includes additional music and orchestration for ANGEL EYES, THE DANGEROUS LIVES OF ALTAR BOYS, THE FIRST 20 MILLION and SCARY MOVIE 2, working with composer Marco Beltrami. He has also worked with composer Mark Mothersbaugh on GOOD BOY, RUGRATS GO TO PARIS and THE ADVENTURES OF ROCKY AND BULLWINKLE. Hiel has also composed for several independent films including the cult classic SWIMMING WITH SHARKS starring Kevin Spacey.

BUYSOUNDTRAX Records presents SHARKTOPUS, featuring music composed by Tom Hiel, mastered by James Nelson at Digital Outland and including exclusive liner notes written by Randall Larson, with the participation of the composer.

Die Clips sind gar nicht mal so übel. Ich habe schon den Kopf geschüttelt (über den Film, wohlgemerkt), als vor ein paar Monaten ein längeres Interview mit Tom Hiel bei Randall Larson zu lesen war. Ich meine: wer schaut so etwas? Der Trailer ist ja grässlich. Allerdings bei der letzten Szene im Trailer musste ich dann doch Lachen.

Den Trailer am besten bei YouTube direkt schauen (rechte Maustaste). Hier eingebunden im Board kann man die sinnfreie Werbung nicht wegclicken.

Ich vermute, der Film hätte mehr Zuschauer gehabt, wenn sich die Macher für die Titelalternative "Sharktopussy" entschieden hätten.

Das tut weh, wenn man sowas sieht. Eric Roberts sollte wieder in größeren Filmen mitspielen. Aber vorerst genügt mir mal seine Hauptrolle in "Sebastian Fitzek's Das Kind"... und natürlich seine Rolle in Expendables 1^^
