La-La Land Records and Paramount Pictures are proud to present a 3 disc set of Ira Newborn’s classic scores to THE NAKED GUN: FROM THE FILES OF POLICE SQUAD!, THE NAKED GUN 2 ½ THE SMELL OF FEAR, AND THE NAKED GUN 33 1/3 THE FINAL INSULT. Jam packed with fantastic heroic themes, action packed, heart pounding tunes and sultry, sexy film noir cop thriller music circa 1978, Mr. Newborn’s diversified score is right up there with AIRPLANE! and TOP SECRET as some of the best music this genre has ever offered. While only some of the first 2 films scores were previously released, the third film in the series is making its world debut in this set! Also featured in this collection are songs from the various films, including “I’m Into Something Good,” “I Guess I’m Just Screwed,” the Academy Award’s show-stopping number “This Could Be the Start of Something” performed by Pia Zadora, and, arguably the greatest rendition of “The Star Spangle Banner” ever sung, performed by the great Enrico Pallazzo (a never-before-heard prerecorded performance)!

 

Naked Gun and it’s sequel, 2 ½, have been completely remastered and expanded greatly. Mike Matessino had the opportunity to go back and remix the first film’s score to its original glory! The 36 page booklet features extensive liner notes by Daniel Schweiger that take you behind the scenes of the funny films and their magnificent scores. Composer Ira Newborn and the magical film making team of ZAZ (David Zucker, Jim Abrahams and Jerry Zucker) also lend some insight into these comedy classics. Dan Goldwasser’s art direction bring the zaniness altogether in one attractive looking package.

This 3 cd set goes on sale next week July 15, 2014 at 12 pm pst. This is our only new release for this week.

PLEASE NOTE: We MIGHT have a limited amount of signed copies autographed by Ira Newborn available at the time of the release. There is a 50/50 chance of us having them, though, there's only a 10 percent chance of that.

Ich habe mich schon gefragt, wann LLL mit seinen Ankündigungen für Juli kommt. Die letzten Monate gab es am Monatsanfang immer diese hübsche Grafik, auf der zu sehen war, was einen im kommenden Monat erwartet. Dieses Mal gibt es das scheinbar nicht oder erst im Laufe der Woche, mal sehen. Der 29. Juli wäre ja noch zu besetzen. ;)

Gerhard hat sich ein paarmal die Tage bei FSM dazu geäußert. Am 29. sollen 1-2 und im August wahrscheinlich sogar 5 Veröffentlichungen kommen. :)

Danke für die Info. Dann setze ich mal auf GHOSTBUSTERS und GHOSTBUSTERS II im August. :D

also taucht denn GHOSTBUSTERS 2 was? Is das nicht übelste Billig-Synthie-Mucke von Edelman?

Sagen wir mal so, es ist eben der übliche Edelman'sche Mix aus Elektronik und Orchester. Hier und da klingt das tatsächlich etwas dünn, besonders im Finale, aber der Score hat ein schönes Love Theme und auch die Vigo-Musik ist zwar simpel, aber doch sehr nett. Es ist natürlich kein Vergleich zu Bernsteins Score, den ich im Film auch als wesentlich präsenter empfinde. Edelmans Score bleibt über viele Strecken im Film eher unauffällig. Und an einer Stelle (als die Geisterjäger die Straße aufbohren) hört man im Score auch die Melodie eines Songs aus dem Film (der im Film selbst aber nicht auftaucht, erst im Abspann, "Spirit" von Doug E. Fresh). Ob Edelman sich dafür vom Song hat inspirieren lassen oder umgekehrt, keine Ahnung. :)

Naked Gun????? GEKAUFT!!!!!!!!!!

zu GHOSTBUSTERS II : auf einer englischen Seite (welche, weiß ich jetzt nicht mehr), hatte ich vor einiger Zeit mal drüber gelesen, welche Bänder im Original nicht mehr vorhanden sind bzw. sein können.Darunter zählte auch Edelman´s goldene Partitur. :(

Ähnlich wie bei CONAN THE BARBARIAN. ;) Aber da MV quasi schon bestätigt hat, dass GHOSTBUSTERS II erscheinen wird, dürften die Bänder wohl doch wieder aufgetaucht sein. Wenn es so weit ist, werden wir sicherlich mehr wissen.

 

I would bet good money another release of Ghostbusters and a debut release of Ghostbusters 2 happening this year to coincide with their respective anniversaries

wie Edelman überhaupt an den Job gekommen ist würd mich ja interessieren... na wird man in dem Booklet wohl erfahren...

Soweit ich weiss hat sich Ivan Reitman bei oder nach LEGAL EAGLES mit Bernstein zerstritten, der es ausserdem satt hatte, nur noch Komödien zu vertonen. Für seinen nächsten Film TWINS mit Schwarzenegger holte sich Reitman dann eben Edelman und da auf TWINS der zweite GHOSTBUSTERS folgte, dürfte das die Erklärung sein. Reitmans nächsten Film, KINDERGARTEN COP, hat dann ja auch Edelman vertont.

 

Danach schwenkte Reitman mit DAVE erst mal zu James Newton Howard um, der drei Filme am Stück mit ihm machte (vier sogar, wenn man den von Reitman produzierten SPACE JAM dazuzählt). Dann durfte noch einmal Edelman ran für SIX DAYS SEVEN NIGHTS und seitdem ist Reitman eigentlich relativ frei, was seine Komponisten angeht. Seinen aktuellen Film DRAFT DAY (wie auch davor NO STRINGS ATTACHED) hat John Debney vertont.

Außer der Titelmusik ist mir von Newborns Naked Gun Scores nichts im Gedächtnis geblieben.

 

MVs Bemerkung bzgl. Ghostbusters 2 ist mir dann wohl durchgerutscht, ich warte schon sehr lange auf ein Release des Scores. Er ist vielleicht nicht besonders anspruchsvoll und auch nicht weiter interessant für viele unter uns, aber mich hat er im Film immer angesprochen, weil die düstere Stimmung (vorallem was Vigo angeht) gut untermalt wurde. Und die Mischung Synthie und Orchester (auch wenns vielleicht nur gesampled ist) gut zu dem Thema und dem Film passte. :)

 

Let's hope... :P
