GAD Records haben am Freitag ein neues Album mit polnischer TV-Musik veröffentlicht:

cd_127_kaszycki_doktor_murek-uai-516x516

Zitat

Two orchestra suites crafted by the composer based on the original scores from “Doktor Murek” TV series, recorded in 1979 by the Polish Radio and TV Orchestra in Warsaw, directed by Jan Pruszak. “Doktor Murek” in the most tasty and condensed form ever.

“Doktor Murek” series by Witold Lesiewicz tells the story of the professional and moral decline of its main character, created by Jerzy Zielnik. The tumultuous life of the failed lawyer (and a conman), depicted with the wider picture of the Second Republic of Poland in the background, captivated the viewers. What left the lasting impression was the soundtrack by Lucjan Kaszycki who, at the time of “Doktor Murek” premiere, had already had a long career in the world of the film music (marked, among all, by the cooperation with Wojciech Jerzy Has). He was a seasoned composer who brought to Lesiewicz’s TV series the diversity which worked well with the alternating ambience of each of seven series episodes. You can hear it perfectly well in suites composed almost in parallel with the actual sound illustrations. These are broad, intriguing forms, with lush string parts (and some Rhodes piano as well!).

The recordings of both suites have been remastered from original tapes stored in the archives of the Polish Radio. The booklet presents some stills from the set and a short essay on the series and its soundtrack. The album is a new addition to the series published by GAD Records which until now has featured (among others): “Dzięcioł” by Henryk Kuźniak and Juliusz Loranc, “07 zgłoś się” by Włodzimierz Korcz and “Tulipan” by Andrzej Korzyński. More to follow!

World Premiere CD Release. Remastered edition.
8-page CD booklet with French and English liner notes by Gilles Loison.

Music Box Records proudly launches a new collection dedicated to original television series: Great Television Soundtracks. In collaboration with Sony/ATV Music Publishing France, the label is pleased to unveil the titles of the first volume with the premiere CD release of the scores from the French TV series Les Colonnes du ciel (Heaven's Pillars, 1985) and Félicien Grevêche (1986) composed and conducted by Raymond Alessandrini.

Adapted by Bernard Clavel from his novel, the French historical five-episode series Les Colonnes du ciel, directed by Danish director Gabriel Axel, is about the conquest of the Franche-Comté province by the armies of King Louis XIII of France during his war against Spain (Ten Years’ War).

The French drama eight-episode series Félicien Grevêche, directed by Michel Wyn, tells the story of a countryside physician who works in difficult conditions in Languedoc (Southern France) in the 19th century. The creator and actor, Sylvain Joubert wrote a very well-documented original script about this transitional period when medicine was progressing thanks to the discoveries of Louis Pasteur.

Raymond Alessandrini uses a large orchestra to convey the adventurous spirit of the two series. Both scores showcase a wide range of dramatic passages, epic orchestral pieces, intimate musical cues tinged with folk elements and ethnical flavored pieces. The composer states that these two scores are among his best works thanks to the complete freedom that both Gabriel Axel and Michel Wyn let him enjoy.

Remastered from the original recording sessions, the program has been supervised by Raymond Alessandrini. The CD comes with an 8-page booklet with liner notes by Gilles Loison, discussing the films and the scores including new comments by the composer on his collaboration with the two directors. The release is limited to 300 units.

Remastered and expanded edition.
8-page CD booklet with liner notes by Gergely Hubai.

In collaboration with Gruppo Sugar, Music Box Records is proud to present not one, not two, but three Nicola Piovani scores.

Dolce far niente (Sweet Idleness, 1998) by Romanian filmmaker Nae Caranfil explores the life French author Henri Beyle aka Stendhal during his times in Italy as he gets mixed up in romantic intrigue and political machinations. Piovani's music adapts some of the most popular Italian tunes to cover the friendship of Stendhal and Rossini - the package is rounded out with the song by "Quando il sole spunterà" ("When the Sun Comes Up") by actor/singer Pino Ingrosso.

Le ambizioni sbagliate (1983), directed by Fabio Carpi, is a television adaptation of Alberto Moravia's novel about an unhappy marriage between a journalist and his socially higher ranking wife. The TV production has a short, mostly strings based underscore underscoring the strains of married life.

Marco Bellocchio’s Gli occhi, la bocca reunites the director with Lou Castel, the actor who helped kickstart the director’s career with I pugni in tasca (1965). As a failed actor returns home for the funeral of his twin brother, he finds himself doing his greatest performance, filling up a hole in the life of his recently widowed sister-in-law. This most unusal romance gets a beautiful underscore with two separate ideas underlining the relationship, including a wonderful piano piece and a folksy waltz.

Out of the three scores, only Dolce far niente had a previous CD release with about 15 minutes of music. This new CD expands on that length by almost doubling the program and including Le ambizioni sbagliate and Gli occhi, la bocca, two previously unreleased soundtracks. This present edition has been fully remastered from the session tapes and includes an 8-page booklet with liner notes by Gergely Hubai, discussing the films and the scores. The release is limited to 300 units.

This truly epic soundtrack was composed and conducted by BERT SHEFTER, whom many of us usually known as coworking with PAUL SAWTELL. This was one of his earlier works and one of his grandest if not his grandest work ever, also our most epic release so far.

This is the first time that the soundtrack of this 1953 epic has a release in any format, almost 70 years after the film release!  The music composed by Shefter is  big, epic and very rich in melodic content and despite the only known surviving sources did not run very long, the majority of the important music heard in the film is finally here for the world to listen to in all its glory.

Neu von Dragon's Domain:

Dragon’s Domain Records presents MEDAL OF HONOR – ORIGINAL SCORE FROM THE DOCUMENTARY SERIES, featuring music composed by Richard Stone (HISTERIA, ANIMANIACS, SUNDOWN, PUMPKINHEAD) and Mark Watters (TINY TOON ADVENTURES, ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN 2, 101 DALMATIONS: THE SERIES) for the PBS series MEDAL OF HONOR: TRUE STORIES OF AMERICA’S GREATEST WAR HEROES originally broadcast from 1990 to 1991 and featuring actor Cliff Robertson’s narration.

MEDAL OF HONOR: TRUE STORIES OF AMERICA’S GREATEST WAR HEROES was a documentary series which told the heroic true stories of America’s greatest war heroes during World War II. Featuring actual wartime footage, the series captured the spirit, courage and personalities of some of those who have been awarded the United States highest military award. This music is dedicated to these men and their families.

Six-time Emmy award-winning composer and cellist Richard Stone received his degree in music from Indiana University in Bloomington in 1980. Shortly thereafter, he relocated to California to work as a music editor for several prestigious composers including Georges Delerue and Maurice Jarre. His earliest feature film composing credits include SUMMER HEAT (1987), NORTH SHORE (1987) and PUMPKINHEAD (1988), scored for renowned make-up wizard and first-time director Stan Winston. It was Stone's work on these early feature films that garnered the attention of producers who promptly plugged him in to the role which would eventually define his celebrated career.

Stone was instrumental in fostering the fervent revival of Warner Bros. animation throughout the 1990s. Resembling a technique and style comparable to celebrated Looney Tunes composer Carl Stalling, Stone single-handedly resurrected Stalling's signature mickeymousing techniques thrusting them back into the spotlight. Stone's skillful music graced a host of popular cartoons including TINY TOON ADVENTURES, TAZ-MANIA, FREAKAZOID!, PINKY AND THE BRAIN and ANIMANIACS. Sadly, Stone passed away on March 9th, 2001 at the age of 47.

Mark Watters is a six-time Emmy Award-winning composer and conductor whose diverse career spans 400 television episodes, feature films, DVDs and video games. He has served several terms as Music Governor on the Television Academy’s Board of Governors. Mark holds the distinction of serving as music director for two Olympics: the 1996 Centennial Games in Atlanta, and the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.

His numerous appearances as guest conductor have included those with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the London Symphony, the Detroit Symphony and numerous others. In 2002, Mark was asked by John Williams to co-conduct the Academy Awards. He conducted three tours of “Star Wars In Concert,” including Japan with the Tokyo Philharmonic.

In 2017, Mark took a full-time position at the famed, Eastman School of Music as head of their newly formed, Contemporary Media and Film Scoring graduate program. He also is the director of the Beal Institute for Film Music and Contemporary Media named after Eastman alum and Emmy Award-winning composer, Jeff Beal.

Dragon’s Domain Records presents MEDAL OF HONOR – ORIGINAL SCORE FROM THE DOCUMENTARY SERIES, featuring music composed by Richard Stone and Mark Watters. Previously released on compact disc in 1990 and very scarce now, Dragon’s Domain Records brings MEDAL OF HONOR – ORIGINAL SCORE FROM THE DOCUMENTARY SERIES back to the marketplace, newly mastered by James Nelson at Digital Outland. MEDAL OF HONOR – ORIGINAL SCORE FROM THE DOCUMENTARY SERIES is a limited edition of 500 units.

MEDAL OF HONOR – ORIGINAL SCORE FROM THE DOCUMENTARY SERIES is expected to begin shipping the week of July 27th. The first 50 copies will be autographed by composer Mark Watters.

Dragon’s Domain Records, to be distributed through buysoundtrax.com, presents THE PETER BERNSTEIN COLLECTION, VOLUME 1 , featuring music composed by Peter Bernstein for two projects from his filmography, MEGIDDO (THE OMEGA CODE 2) and ISLAND CITY.

Released in 2001, following the modestly successful Christian faith-based motion picture THE OMEGA CODE from 1999, MEGIDDO: THE OMEGA CODE 2 is a religious science-fiction apocalyptic adventure film directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith starring Michael York, Michael Biehn, R. Lee Ermey, Diana Venora, and Udo Kier. MEGIDDO is a quasi-prequel based on an alternate variation of the original film’s plot, a swath of Christian theology that focuses on the Book of Revelation that closes out the New Testament of the Christian Bible. This book forewarns the second coming of Jesus Christ through the violent destruction of the world known as the Great Tribulation.

The music was composed by Peter Bernstein, son of legendary composer Elmer Bernstein. When director Brian Trenchard-Smith was officially hired to helm the sequel , the filmmaker already had his composer in mind. Bernstein had previously worked with Trenchard-Smith on his two previous made-for-television movies, ATOMIC DOG and HAPPY FACE MURDERS and would eventually work together again on SIGHTINGS: HEARTLAND GHOST. Bernstein composed the entire score in about four weeks and is primarily electronic in nature utilizing sample technology that was cutting-edge for its time.

Broadcast only once on March 2, 1994, ISLAND CITY was a science-fiction backdoor television pilot  starring Kevin Conroy, Brenda Strong, Eric McCormack, Peter Koch and Constance Marie. Set in a dystopian future, humanity develops a miraculous new drug that offers its addicts a kind of “fountain of youth.” One of the most severe side-effects of this drug is it mutates its users into disfigured quasi-humanoids with severe violent tendencies. Those few people who have developed an immunity to this side-effect band together to defend the walls of a fortified commune against the mutants outside its gates. During one of their missions into the wasteland, a scout team comes under attack and one of their own is captured by the mutants. The characters cope with the loss by organizing a search-and-rescue mission.

Bernstein was brought aboard the project by the pilot’s producers based on the wealth of action-adventure films he had scored throughout the 1980s. Bernstein composed music for a respectfully large fifty-plus-piece orchestra recorded and then edited by Bernstein on an early hardware Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). This unique level of control over the recorded live elements allowed Bernstein to sweeten the acoustic tracks with additional synthesizers and percussion elements.

The son of Academy Award winning film composer Elmer Bernstein (THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM, THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, GHOSTBUSTERS), Peter Bernstein grew up around recording stages, watching his father work and absorbing as much as he could. His musical education began with piano lessons. He eventually decided he wanted to be a bass player and studied bass with Carol Kaye, a member of the legendary ‘Wrecking Crew’ group of LA studio musicians. Around the same time, Peter was also studying with pioneering electronic music composer Morton Subotnick. He began his professional career as a rock n’ roll bass player at age 14 and worked in the record business as a touring bass player, band member, session player, arranger and record producer for the next 20 years. As time passed it became clear that there was going to be more opportunity for him as a composer and Peter began by working for other composers as an orchestrator and arranger. He orchestrated all or part of almost all of his father’s scores from 1974-1986, while still working in the rock n roll record business. Orchestration credits from the era include ANIMAL HOUSE, TRADING PLACES and GHOSTBUSTERS, as well as the scored portions of Michael Jackson’s THRILLER video. His credits as composer include HOT DOG… THE MOVIE, BOLERO, THE EWOK ADVENTURE, MY SCIENCE PROJECT, EWOKS: THE BATTLE FOR ENDOR, THE ALAMO: THIRTEEN DAYS TO GLORY, FIFTY/FIFTY, CANADIAN BACON and PUPPET MASTER VS DEMONIC TOYS. For television, his credits include 21 JUMP STREET, BOOKER, FALLEN ANGELS, CHICAGO HOPE, ROUGH RIDERS, MOWGLI: THE NEW ADVENTURES OF THE JUNGLE BOOK and HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS: THE TV SHOW.

Dragon’s Domain Records presents THE PETER BERNSTEIN COLLECTION, VOLUME 1, featuring music composed, conducted and produced by Peter Bernstein for MEGIDDO (THE OMEGA CODE 2) and ISLAND CITY presented for the very first time on compact disc. The music has been mastered by James Nelson at Digital Outland and the liner notes have been written by author and composer Brian Satterwhite, with the participation of the composer.

THE PETER BERNSTEIN COLLECTION, VOLUME 1 is a limited edition release of 500 units. THE PETER BERNSTEIN COLLECTION, VOLUME 1 is expected to begin shipping the week of July 27th, 2020. Composer Peter Bernstein will sign the first 100 copies of THE PETER BERNSTEIN COLLECTION, VOLUME 1 sold through the website.

Dragon’s Domain Records, to be distributed through buysoundtrax.com, will be releasing LADY BEWARE, featuring music composed by Craig Safan (THE LAST STARFIGHTER, SON OF THE MORNING STAR) for the 1987 thriller LADY BEWARE, directed by Karen Arthur, starring Diane Lane, Michael Woods, Cotter Smith, Tyra Ferrell and Edward Penn.

Released in 1987, LADY BEWARE features Diane Lane (A LITTLE ROMANCE, THE OUTSIDERS, STREETS OF FIRE, UNFAITHFUL) as Katya Yarno, a young woman who obtains a job as a window dresser in a chic Pittsburgh department store. Her provocative lingerie displays become known for their sensuous and kinky themes, attracting attention to the store, and giving Katya license for even more tantalizing exhibits. But among those showing interest in Katya’s interactive and alluring posing of the store mannequins is a psychopathic stalker named Jack Price (Woods), whose unyielding pursuit of Katya poses great danger to Katya, forcing her in the end to give Jack a taste of his own medicine.

LADY BEWARE was directed by Karen Arthur, a veteran director of primarily TV movies and series episodes and also a former actress during the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. The film was shot during the summer of 1986 on location in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which added a good deal of verisimilitude to the environment both within the department store and in the downtown cityscape and the many bridges that connect with the various neighborhoods across the rivers.

The 1980s were a busy period for Safan. He scored more than three dozen projects during the decade, ranging from feature films, television series, and made-for-TV movies. During the middle of this period, Safan began exploring scoring movies by combining orchestras with electronics. Safan’s score for LADY BEWARE combines synthesizers and sampled sounds mixed with a large string section to generate a compelling and cohesive score, which builds a good deal of suspense for Katya’s predicament, and then, after a turning point in the story, attends the retaliation she determinedly sets upon Jack. Safan was able to pull together a sizeable string orchestra of about 25 musicians, which equated to a dozen violins, four violas, four cellos, and two basses. Uncredited in the film, veteran scoring mixer Dan Wallin imbued Safan’s musical ensemble with its rich, sonic seasoning. Safan’s music does its job to elevate the tension of the story, enhance the sensitivity of the main character and evoke the inherent danger and apprehension.

Craig Safan has composed music for numerous feature films, television shows, theatrical musicals, and circuses. He is the winner of eight ASCAP Top Show Awards as well as an Emmy nominee. Craig is also a recepient of a Watson Foundation Fellowship and is a member of the Executive Music Committee at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Currently Craig divides his time between Los Angeles and New York City where he is developing several new musicals.

An early compact disc release for LADY BEWARE appeared in 1987, coinciding with the film’s release, including songs from the film and a small selection of score tracks, Dragon’s Domain Records now presents the world premiere soundtrack release of LADY BEWARE featuring the complete score composed by Craig Safan, and mastered by James Nelson of Digital Outland. The booklet contains liner notes written by noted author Randall D. Larson and includes comments from the composer.

LADY BEWARE is a limited edition release of 500 units. LADY BEWARE is expected to begin shipping the week of July 27th, 2020. The first 50 copies sold through the website will include a booklet autographed by composer Craig Safan.

BSX Records presents ALAN HOWARTH LIVE AT HOLLYWOOD THEATER, featuring music composed and performed by Alan Howarth from his filmography performed live.

The week before Halloween 2014, composer Alan Howarth presented a live show of his film music in Portland, Oregon. It was a kind of pinnacle of Howarth’s nearly forty years of music and sound design for motion pictures that began with creating sound effects for STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE in 1979, found him co-composing the music for a number of director/composer John Carpenter’s films, and moving on to have a successful career scoring films up into the current day.

The music on this album comes from that 2014 concert, held at the historic Hollywood Theater in Portland, Oregon. Howarth recorded the show using a board mix [allowing the live sound to be mixed in real time during the performance], with a digital tape recorder placed on the stage to record the live audience ambiance, which was added to the final mix. The vinyl album of that concert was initially issued on the Wyrd War label in 2018, with a pressing of 500 copies that sold out quickly. BSX Records is now pleased to present and preserve this concert for the first time on CD as we celebrate the music of Alan Howarth Live!

Howarth had taken his music on the road for the first time in 2008, when he was invited to participate in a Q&A session at the HALLOWEEN “30 Years of Terror” convention, held at the Pasadena Convention Center. Rather than talking about the music, Howarth played it live, using the Logic digital audio workstation software application on his laptop along with a MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) keyboard. The event was a success and as a result Howarth wound up developing a full concert of his music for a show in Kraków, Poland in 2010. He met an Australian video artist named Jade Boyd, and she created unique video artistry based on the films which was projected during subsequent concerts. Since then, he’s had sold-out shows at such venues as the 2011 Unsound Festival in New York City and Synthplex in Burbank, California, and returned to Europe for concerts in Geneva, St. Petersburg, Toronto, London, and Paris.

Alan Howarth, in addition to being a composer, is an accomplished sound designer and editor, having worked on films such as STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE, POLTERGEIST, TOTAL RECALL, ARMY OF DARKNESS, BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA, STARGATE and many others. He has been a frequent music collaborator with John Carpenter on his films beginning with ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK in 1980 and including HALLOWEEN II & III, CHRISTINE, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, THEY LIVE and PRINCE OF DARKNESS and Alan has scored many films on his own, including RETRIBUTION, HALLOWEEN 4 & 5, THE DENTIST, HEADLESS, BOO!, EVILUTION, BASEMENT JACK and most recently, HOUSE AT THE END OF THE DRIVE, BRUTAL and PROMISE.

BSX Records presents ALAN HOWARTH LIVE AT HOLLYWOOD THEATER, featuring music composed and performed by Alan Howarth, recorded live at the Hollywood Theater on October 1st, 2014, edited and mastered by James Nelson at Digital Outland, with notes by author Randall Larson.

ALAN HOWARTH LIVE AT HOLLYWOOD THEATER includes music from ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13, ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, THE LOST EMPIRE, HALLOWEEN II, THE THING, HALLOWEEN III, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, THEY LIVE, PRINCE OF DARKNESS, RETRIBUTION and HALLOWEEN 4.

ALAN HOWARTH LIVE AT HOLLYWOOD THEATER is a limited edition release of 500 units and is expected to begin shipping the week of July 27th. The first 50 copies sold through our website will include an autograph by the composer.

THE-ORDER.jpg

Quartet Records presents the world premiere release of the adventure score composed by Pino Donaggio (CARRIE, DRESSED TO KILL, THE HOWLING, PATRICK) for THE ORDER, a Jean-Claude van Damme Middle Eastern escapade.

Directed by Sheldon Lettich (the screenwriter of BLOODSPORT), THE ORDER finds JCVD in the middle of a millennium-spanning conspiracy as a radically religious knighthood intends to launch one last apocalyptic cataclysm for the glory of God. It’s up to a master thief and an Israeli police officer to unravel the truth and stop the final attack that could jeopardize the lives of thousands of believers …

Pino Donaggio’s music focuses on Middle Eastern flavor and religious splendor with a majestic choral hymn representing the constructive aspects of faith. Besides several action cues that could be expected with the genre, there’s a lovely romantic theme for the relationship between Rudy and Lt. Dalia Barr as well as a high-energy klezmer piece recorded for one of the more off-kilter chase sequences.

Performed by The Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra & Chorus conducted by Natale Massara, this release has been remixed by Paolo Steffan from recently discovered original multi-tracks under the composer’s supervision. Mastered by Chris Malone, the package includes liner notes by Gergely Hubai discussing the film, the composer and the score.

Quartet Records, Nostromo Pictures and Atresmusica present the score by Fernando Velázquez (A MONSTER CALL, CRIMSON PEAK, THE IMPOSSIBLE) for the final chapter of the “Baztan” trilogy after EL GUARDIAN INVISIBLE and LEGADO EN LOS HUESOS (both available on Quartet Records)

Directed by Fernando González Molina, this trilogy is based on the popular novels written by Dolores Redondo. In the film, Inspector Amaia Salazar (Marta Etura) confronts the origins of her nightmares as she uncovers the darkest secrets of the Baztan valley.

As in the previous films, Fernando Velázquez provides an intense, exciting and highly vigorous score with thick orchestral colors—lyrical, dark and rhythmic, including a haunting main theme. The Navarre Symphony Orchestra performs the music with great sensitivity under the composer’s baton.

Klar. ?
