Fimucité 9 begins in Tenerife this week and we are so excited to celebrate the occasion with this special 2 CD release of one of the festival’s greatest film music concerts. In 2012 Fimucité was selected as the location for the official Universal Pictures 100th Anniversary concert celebrating the studio’s illustrious history of great film music. We don’t cover all 100 years in the concert but our program does span 81 years of Universal Studios. The earliest music you’ll hear is from Bernhard Kaun’s 1931 Frankenstein, which starred Boris Karloff as the monster, and from just four months before the concert took place we have John Powell’s The Lorax.

Almost everything was a world premiere concert performance! The audience in Tenerife got to hear pieces you never thought you would ever hear live! Music from Field of Dreams, Meet Joe Black, Cape Fear, Airport, The Wolfman, Fried Green Tomatoes, An American Tail, Far And Away, The Mummy … classics like To Kill A Mockingbird, Back To The Future Part III, E.T., Conan: The Barbarian, Dracula, Love Actually, Backdraft, On Golden Pond, A Beautiful Mind … all were brilliantly and beautifully performed by the great Diego Navarro conducting the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and Tenerife Film Choir, with an amazing group of soloists. This concert was an epic, and truly historic. We started the show with Brian Tyler’s special centennial version of Jerry Goldsmith’s famous Universal Pictures Fanfare, in an expanded concert arrangement for orchestra and choir! What an opening! Our Dracula is a special concert version, with revisions made by John Williams himself!

To add even more iconic Universal Pictures scores, we’ve included a special Bonus Tracks section featuring Universal classics that have been performed in past Fimucité concerts including Alex North’s Spartacus, John Williams’ Jaws, Jurassic Park and Schindler’s List, John Barry’s Out of Africa and James Newton Howard’s King Kong.

Finishing this CD in the days following the tragic death of James Horner reminded us how important he was to this studio as we featured over twenty minutes of the composer’s music in this concert, including Field of Dreams, An American Tail and A Beautiful Mind.

Two hours of music, with extensive liner notes by producer Robert Townson, President of Film Music for Universal Pictures Mike Knobloch and conductor Diego Navarro, with photos from the films and the concert.

This was a night not to be missed, but it took place in the Canary Islands, so many could not make it. Finally you can hear this acclaimed concert from 2012 that combines the magic of Universal Pictures with the magic of Fimucité.

Diesmal ist es doch nur das Konzert ohne den ganzen Bonus-Kram., der es nur verteuert.

 

Klar. Es ist kein Original-Score aber was soll man gegen eine Konzert CD haben?

Natürlich muß auch erstmal abgewartet werden, wie die das spielen. :-)

Bin da eher bei ataraxus: netter kleiner Sampler, mehr nicht. Und das Programm des Konzerts könnte allgemeiner und unspezifischer kaum sein.

Natürlich ist dieses Album keine Offenbarung.

Es ist eben ein Konzertmitschnitt.

Mir wäre Dracula komplett auch lieber gewesen.

Nur im Vergleich mit den letzten Veröffentlichungen ist es in meinen Augen ein Schritt nach vorne.

Und das 100 Jahre innerhalb eines einzigen Konzertes nicht adäquat präsentiert werden können, ist auch klar.

Die CD ist auch für die interessant, die einmal andere Interpretationen einer Musik hören möchten. Es soll ja auch Leute geben, die in solche Konzerte gehen und dafür Eintritt zahlen.

 

Übrigens hat Varèse noch andere CDs gestern rausgebracht: Barr, Marinelli, McKenzie, Beal. Die wurden hier nicht erwähnt. Wenn man schaut, wie viel Varèse schon immer für aktuelle Scores getan hat: Danke, dass es Varèse immer noch gibt!

 

Achja: vor zwei Wochen gab es Gremlins 2 und Outbreak als Deluxe. Waren auch nicht übel.

ok, stimmt, outbreak und gremlins 2 will ich nicht vergessen, die anderen CDs die du eben erwähnt hast könnten auch ganz gut sein. Mit dem Einwand einer anderen Einspielung kann ich auch gut mitgehen. Aber es ist so ein Durcheinander, wenn dann doch gerne was von einem Komponisten, oder etwas was thematisch zusammenhängt (Western, Monumental...) oder etwas was musikalisch auf ähnlichem Niveau ist. Aber das hier ist wie Spaghetti mit Senfsauce und Erdbeeren darauf. Schmeckt nicht besonders.

Ist wie alles eine Frage des persönlichen Geschmacks. Schon einmal Ölsardinen und Dosenpfirsiche mit Kondensmilch probiert? Ich fand es sehr lecker! (Dank an Enid Blyton und Hanni und Nanni)

... ist das einzige was an dieser Veröffentlichung wirklich interessant ist. Ich bin über Tyler's Arrangement positiv überrascht! Gefällt mir sehr gut!

Eigentlich ganz nett, ist ja von Brian Tyler arrangiert worden, oder? Allerdings find ich den Einsatz des Chors dann doch etwas übertrieben...
