Danny Elfman is set to score the upcoming animated feature How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The film is directed by Pete Candeland & Yarrow Cheney (The Secret Life of Pets) and stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of the title character. The movie is based on Dr. Seuss’ classic tale about the titular grouch who plots to ruin Christmas for the residents of his neighboring village of Whoville. Michael LeSieur (You, Me and Dupree) wrote the screenplay. Chris Meledandri & Janet Healy (Despicable Me, Minions, The Lorax) and Scott Mosier (Free Birds, Dogma, Clerks) are producing the Illumination Entertainment production. How the Grinch Stole Christmas will be released on November 9, 2018 by Universal Pictures. Elfman’s recent projects also include Justice League, which is currently playing in theaters, the sequel Fifty Shades Freed (set to open in February 2018) and Gus Van Sant’s Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot (set to premiere next year). The composer also has Tim Burton’s adaptation of Dumbo coming up.

Back Lot Music will release a score album for Illumination Entertainment’s animated feature Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch. The album features the film’s original score composed by Danny Elfman (Spider-Man, Batman, Alice in Wonderland, Nightmare Before Christmas, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 9, 2018. Check back on this page for the pre-order link. As previously reported, Columbia Records will release a separate soundtrack featuring the songs from the movie and two tracks from Elfman’s score. Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch is directed by Scott Mosier & Yarrow Cheney, narrated by Pharrell Williams and stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the cynical grump who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl’s generous holiday spirit. The animated movie narrated will be released in theaters nationwide on November 9 by Universal Pictures.
