This week’s show is a special one as I will be reading for you excerpts from a brand new book called SCORED TO DEATH: CONVERSATIONS WITH SOME OF HORROR’S GREATEST COMPOSERS. In the book, author J. Blake Fichera interviews 14 masters in the horror music genre including director/composer John Carpenter; sound designer/composer Alan Howarth; Italian composers (and members of the band Goblin, known for their scores for Dario Argento films) Claudio Simonetti and Maurizio Guarini; Hollywood composers Christopher Young, Tom Hajdu (of the composing team tomandandy), Charles Bernstein, Jay Chattaway, and Nathan Barr; as well as such other horror notables as Fabio Frizzi, Simon Boswell, Joseph Bishara, and Harry Manfredini.

I was also interviewed and featured in the first part of the program.

 

The second of Jason Drury’s three part story on one of the finest composers in movie history continues with an overview of James Horner’s music in the 1990s including selections from THE ROCKETEER, LEGENDS OF THE FALL, CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER, BRAVEHEART, APOLLO 13, TITANIC and much more.

On May 25, 1977 Star Wars was released and proceeded to become one of the most popular and most profitable films of all time. To honour the 40th anniversary of this ground-breaking film CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO is proud to present music from all seven of John Williams’ film scores – STAR WARS, THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, RETURN OF THE JEDI, THE PHANTOM MENACE, ATTACK OF THE CLONES, REVENGE OF THE SITH and THE FORCE AWAKENS. We will also be featuring music from Joel McNeely’s score to the 1996 novel SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE, Kevin Kiner’s score to the 2008 animated film STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS, and two separate STAR WARS related video games – THE FORCE UNLEASHED and KINECT STAR WARS.
