One by one, they are infected by the grudge, which quickly moves from a burned-down house in Tokyo and spreads to everyone who crosses its path.

THE GRUDGE 2 stars Amber Tamblyn and sees director Takashi Shimizu return from the first film.

Also returning from THE GRUDGE is composer Christopher Young who conjures his latest opus in a long line of horror film music masterpieces.

Columbia Pictures opens THE GRUDGE 2 nationwide on October 13.

Acclaimed actor Richard E. Grants Wah-Wah is a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age at the end of an age story, told through the eyes of young Ralph Compton. Set during the last gasp of the British Empire in Swaziland, South East Africa, in 1969, the plot focuses on the dysfunctional Compton family whose gradual disintegration mirrors the end of British rule.

As an 11-year-old, Ralph witnesses his mothers adultery with his fathers best friend. His parents divorce and Ralph is sent to boarding school. His father, Harry (Gabriel Byrne), not only loses his wife (Miranda Richardson) and best friend, but also his position as Minister of Education with the coming of Independence, prompting his rapid descent into alcoholism.

Now 14, Ralph (Nicholas Hoult) returns home to discover that his father has re-married an American ex-air hostess named Ruby whom his father has known all of six weeks. As round a peg as you could find in this square holed society, Ruby (Emily Watson) ridicules the petty snobbery of the restless colonials whose chief amusements are gin, adultery, and their foppish slang of toodle-pip and hobbly-jobbly that Ruby identifies as sounding like Wah-Wah.

Although Ralph is initially wary of Ruby, he bonds with her as his fathers drinking escalates and becomes dangerously out of control. Its this chaos that stokes Ralphs inner turmoil, and eventually forges his creative mind.

The sumptuously beautiful score is by the great Scottish composer Patrick Doyle. His music for Kenneth Branaghs productions of Shakespeares Henry V, Hamlet and Much Ado About Nothing earned him international acclaim. Doyles scores for films such as Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire, Sense and Sensibility, Calendar Girls and Nanny McPhee have continued to show tremendous musical range and talent. Doyle is, without question, one of the finest composers working in film today.

War das schon bekannt? Nun, ich wusste es nicht, und freue mich nun umso mehr.

Zwar hat mich Youngs Score zum ersten Teil nicht vollends überzeugen können, aber ein youngscher Ausflug ins Horrorgenre ist immer noch interessanter anzuhören als ein Großteil der herkömmlichen Hollywood-Horrorscore-Konfektionsware. Bin gespannt - vielleicht kommt sogar wieder ein Score vom Kaliber seines EMILY ROSE-Scores, das wäre ein Fest!

In Europa werden die CDs allerdings von Colosseum Schallplatten vertrieben, aber die pressen die CDs auch nur in Lizenz und die Scheiben sind 1:1 identisch mit den US-amerikanischen, die von Varese gefertigt werden.

Lediglich die Katalognummer ist unterschiedlich.

Laut Soundtrack Collector war die EMI Ausgabe aus Japan, wobei von der einzelnen CD eine Menge Veröffentlichungen gelistet sind u.a. auch eine Colosseum-Ausgabe.

Sehr komisch was die da gemacht haben, aber man muss es ja nicht verstehen.

Auf meiner Seite könnte ihr euch einen Eindruck von Chris Youngs Score zu THE GRUDGE 2 machen, wenn ihr wollt.

Ziemlich ordentlicher Score, IMO ein ganzes Stück abwechslungsreicher als der erste. Handwerklich sowieso sehr sauber, wie von Young gewohnt. Klingt tatsächlich an vielen Stellen etwas nach den experimentellen Avantgarde-Klangcollagen aus EMILY ROSE. Besonders nett fand ich die herrmanesquen Streicher-Staccati in "Akuma". Rumpelt ordentlich.

Insgesamt gehört GRUDGE 2 für mich schon zu den besseren Scores des Jahres. Jetzt bin ich mal gespannt auf DEPARTED, NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM und CHARLOTTE'S WEB.

Die Musik zu "Grudge 2" ist klasse, wie von Young gewohnt. Leider kann man das vom Film nicht sagen. Der fällt gegenüber dem grandiosen ersten Teil extrem ab. Der Fluch der Vortsetzung, würd ich sagen ...

ja score find ich auch super, ging im Film allerdings auch unter. Der Film war einfach nur übel, aber auch nicht ganz so schlecht wie RING 2... warum haben die nicht einfach nen Remake von JUON 2 gemacht? Der war doch klasse...

Ich frage mich sowieso wie ein Regisseur praktisch sechs mal den gleichen Film machen kann und wenn man es genau nimmt und die Ur-Ur Version, den TV Episodenfilm Gakkô no kaidan G von 1998 hinzu nimmt, sogar sieben mal.

Ich habe bisher die US remakes noch nicht gesehen, unter anderem wegen Sarah Michel Gellar, kenne bis jetzt nur das das Original JP Remake Ju-on: The Grudge von 2003.
