South Africa - 1968 Twenty-five million blacks are ruled by a minority of four million whites under the brutal Apartheid regime of the Nationalist Party Government. Black people have no vote, no land rights, no rights to freedom of movement, to own a business, to housing or education. Determined to retain power, whites ban all black opposition organizations, forcing their leaders into exile or imprisoning them for life on Robben Island.

James Gregory, a typical white Afrikaner, regards blacks as sub-human. Having grown up on a farm in the Transkei, he learned to speak Xhosa at an early age. This makes him an ideal choice to become the warder in charge of Mandela and his comrades on Robben Island. After all, Gregory speaks their language and can spy on them. However, the plan backfires. Through Mandelas influence, Gregorys allegiance gradually shifts from the racist government to the struggle for a free South Africa. Goodbye Bafana tracks the unlikely but profound relationship between these two men. Through their unique friendship, we witness not only Gregorys growing awareness of mans inhumanity to man, but South Africas evolution from Apartheid to a vibrant democracy.

The story, which documents how Mandela became the most inspirational political figure of the modern world, poses the questions: Who is the prisoner? And who sets whom free?

The powerfully evocative score for Goodbye Bafana was composed by Dario Marianelli, the Academy Award-nominated composer of Pride & Prejudice. It is a riveting, captivating and beautiful work.

Goodbye Bafana begins its international roll out on April 13.

April 18, 2007 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of legendary composer Miklós Rózsa. To celebrate one of the truly great film composers we have put together this special CD set compiling recordings that have been unavailable, in some cases, for decades.

Rózsa won three Academy Awards (Spellbound, Ben Hur, A Double Life) and is revered as one of the master composers of the century. His piece Theme, Variations and Finale was on the program (along with works by Shumann and Strauss) that historic night in 1943 when Leonard Bernstein stepped in at the last minute for Bruno Walter and shot to overnight stardom. Rózsa composed his Violin Concerto for none other than Jascha Heifetz!

Rózsas film music is simply some of the greatest and most memorable ever composed. Grand, sweeping melodies and breathtakingly complex orchestrations helped create a genuine sense of awe in his music that, in the annals of film, may be second to none. Rózsa could write epic like no one else!

We present over three hours of his music in honor of the maestros birthday. So many of his classics are here Ben Hur, Spellbound, Jungle Book, Julius Caesar, The Lost Weekend, The Thief of Bagdad and are now available at this special price.

Nach dem ich bis jetzt nur Spellbound, Fedora, King of Kings und The Theif of Bagdad habe, bin ich auf die Miklós Rózsa CD-Box gespannt.

Ehrlich gesagt genügen mir da die Hauptthemen bzw. die Highlights, ausgenommen Spellbound, ein herrlicher Score von dem Alfred Hitchcock selbst jedoch nicht bei jeder Szene begeistert war

Hitchcock meinte bei einem Gespräch mit Francois Truffaut bezüglich der Szene wenn Ingrid Bergaman und Gregory Peck sich zum ersten Mal sehen, das eindeutig Liebe auf den ersten Blick sei: "Leider beginnen genau in dem Augenblick die Geigen zu spielen, das ist fürchterlich."

Übrigens, war Hitchcock mit Franz Waxman's Musik zu Das Fenster zum Hof überhaupt nicht zufrieden.

Hitchcock meinte "Eins an dem Film hat mich wirklich unglücklich gemacht, die Musik. Auf der anderen Seite des Hofs gab es den Musiker, der sich betrank. Ich wollte, dass man hörte, wie er sein Lied komponiert, es entwickelt, und den ganzen Film hindurch sollte man die Entwicklung des Liedes verfolgen können, bis es schließlich in der Schluss-Szene mit Orchester von einer Platte kommt. Das hat nicht geklappt. Ich hätte dafür einen Schlagerkomponisten nehmen sollen. Ich war sehr enttäuscht."

Hitchcock hat sich bei SPELLBOUND ja auch nicht um die Musik gekümmert. Er hat sich einmal kurz mit Rozsa getroffen, ihn aber nie auf der Scoring Stage besucht oder sonst irgendwelche Vorschläge gemacht. Von da her ist er selber Schuld.

Rozsa jedenfalls ist ein toller Komponist!

freu mich schon auf den Film,der wird bestimmt gut.Der Score is bestimmt mit afrikanischen Einflüssen,das liebe ich und dass von Dario,könnte interessant werden.Gibt es schon irgendwo Hörproben, oder muss man sich bis zum 13.April gedulden?

Also ich freue mich mehr über Dario Marianellis "african influenced" Score.

Das er sowas kann hat er ja schon mit The Warrior bewiesen,aber auf Dario meets Africa Score bin ich noch gespannter.^^

Ich hab den Score mal durchgehört, relativ gute arbeit von Marianelli selbst, wenn der Score an einigen Stellen langweilig und an anderen wie Iglesias klingt. Das ist nun meine 20. Varese cd.
