Jerry Goldsmiths score is a comedy masterpiece with a legendary history.

The Burbs Redeveloped

Whats Changed In The Neighborhood

Universal Pictures released The Burbs in February of 1989. No soundtrack album was forthcoming. A mere three years later (although it seemed like a lot longer at the time) the score was rescued in the Varese Sarabande CD Club. Well, thirty minutes of it was, at any rate. But Jerry Goldsmiths exceptionally inventive and inspired score for The Burbs had a lot more to offer. As of 2007, the Musician Union rules have changed in this neighborhood. Though a straight re-issue of our original CD would go against the Clubs intent, an expansion of this order (over twice the amount of music) in this new era of soundtrack releases, seemed to warrant a special exception. This expanded edition also returns to Jerry Goldsmiths original track titles, where our previous release featured titles by yours truly. Now over an hour long, this Deluxe Edition of The Burbs gives a new generation the chance to discover a comedy classic. It gives those whove been to this neighborhood before the opportunity to revisit the Peterson house, now with a new coat of paint, some new landscaping and a roomy extension that has been added. Hinkley Hills has been refurbished and is all set to weather the next decade or two. Its a great place to raise a family!

Bill Conti is back for yet another appearance in our CD Club this time with his exciting score for the 1986 action thriller F/X. Not only does F/X come to CD for the first time but it does so in an expanded Deluxe Edition.

A man who simulates death for a living finds himself unwittingly tied into the real thing in this suspense drama. Special effects man Rollie Tyler (Bryan Brown) makes his living simulating gory mayhem and photogenic violence for movies such as "I Dismember Mama." Tyler is given a chance to expand his professional horizons when he's approached by Lipton (Cliff DeYoung), who introduces himself as an FBI agent and makes an unusual proposal. Mob kingpin Nicholas DeFranco (Jerry Orbach) is willing to testify against his fellow gangsters, but the investigators are worried about his safety. Lipton wants Tyler to help him and his staff fake DeFranco's assassination; if everyone is convinced DeFranco is dead, people will be a lot less likely to look for him. Tyler grudgingly takes the assignment, and while he's able to realistically simulate DeFranco being shot in a crowded restaurant, after the "gag," he discovers that he's been double crossed, and he's wanted for the murder of the man he just "shot." Tyler hides out with his girlfriend Ellen (Diane Venora), but he realizes that whoever set him up wants him dead after she's killed by a bullet meant for him. With the help of fellow effects artist Andy (Martha Gehman), Tyler goes underground and tries to unravel the truth behind the Lipton murder. Meanwhile, police detective Leo McCarthy (Brian Dennehy) is convinced that something is not right when he's called to the scene of DeFranco's murder and is certain that the dead body is not the gangster.

This one ranks with our most exciting CD club releases ever! We are absolutely thrilled to present the world premiere release of Alex Norths magnificent score for 20th Century-Foxs 1952 production of Les Misérables.

Victor Hugos historical epic Les Misérables (1862) is one of those cornerstone works of fiction that have become the veritable pillars of literature. For Les Misérables director Lewis Milestone gathered a cast that was led by Michael Rennie as Valjean, the year following his most famous role, Klaatu, in Robert Wises classic The Day The Earth Stood Still. Robert Newton (Treasure Island) was Javert, Edmund Gwenn (Miracle on 34th Street, The Trouble With Harry) was Bishop Courbet, Debra Paget was Cosette, Sylvia Sidney was the prostitute Fantine, Cameron Mitchell was Marius and Elsa Lanchester turned up as the Bishops housekeeper, Madame Magloire.

What Alex North achieved in his score was nothing less than a masterwork and, arguably, the greatest of all musical interpretations of the great novel. In spite of this, Les Misérables is not a score as famous as many of the other entries in Norths filmography. The fact that, until recently, the film itself was all but unavailable, together with the lack of any soundtrack release, answer for this entirely. But this history is about be rewritten. Twentieth Century Fox has just recently released a DVD containing sterling restorations of both their 1935 and 1952 productions. And this CD, released 55 years after it was composed, presents the first-ever availability of Alex Norths original score. It will be, for many for most even, a revelation. A score believed near lost, and rarely discussed, now emerges as yet another masterpiece in the career of one of film musics demigods.

This is a historic Franz Waxman release. Cut from the same epic cloth of his later score for Prince Valiant, Anne of the Indies shows Franz Waxman in full pirate regalia. His score is a sprawling swashbuckler of a romp that simply explodes with orchestral color and excitement. This is the way pirate movies used to sound and its BIG!!

After seizing a British ship, the female pirate captain Anne Providence (Jean Peters) spares a Frenchman captured by the British, Pierre LaRochelle (Louis Jourdan), from walking the plank. He agrees to join Providence's crew and soon she begins to fall for the handsome officer.

They travel to an island where they meet with her piratical mentor Captain Blackbeard (played by Thomas Gomez), who takes an instant dislike to LaRochelle, although he at first holds back as he can see Anne has affection for him. After lavish celebrations and much drinking is done, things take a darker turn...

Masters Film Music returns with two never before available westerns by the great Elmer Bernstein!

Cannon for Cordoba (1970) is a full-blooded action tale of an Army intelligence team (led by George Peppard and Don Gordon) trying to foil the criminal plans of bandito/general Cordoba (Raf Vallone) in the turbulent Texas-Mexico border skirmishes of 1912, directed by Paul Wendkos. Bernsteins score features one of his most vigorous main themes. Its positively explosive! The rest of the score covers a lot of ground, including a section that is a veritable Elmer Bernstein mariachi street fiesta. This CD is the world premiere release of Cannon for Cordoba.

Gleefully demolishing his macho image, Charles Bronson demonstrates an unexpected comedic talent as a small-time bank robber who inadvertently finds himself a national hero. Adapting his own novel, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and director Frank D. Gilroy proves himself a deft, roguish storyteller with this black comic horror story reminiscent of the screwball comedies of the past. Bronson plays Graham Dorsey, a small-time bank robber who, through a series of offbeat twists and turns of plot, finds himself the object of national adoration. Jill Ireland is Amanda Starbuck, the bewitchingly beautiful but quite loony widow who creates the myth, then sustains it at all costs.

Elmer Bernsteins score is absolutely captivating and charming, beautiful and fun. Its witty and winsome. Its a highly original take on the western a one-off, really. There is neither another film like From Noon Till Three (1976) nor another score like it. The score also features an original, Golden Globe-nominated song called Hello and Goodbye, by Bernstein, along with Alan and Marilyn Bergman. In fact, Elmer and Alan even show up in a cameo to introduce the song!

Who says no to Elmer Bernstein westerns? And two of them at that!

Ich habe soeben "The Burbs" bestellt......was bin ich froh, nicht hunderte von Dollar/Euros für die seit Jahren ausverkaufte alte Ausgabe des Varese-Clubs hingeblättert zu haben. Da werden aber einige Leute bei Ebay ganz schön sauer sein, die gerade eine "The Burbs"-Auktion laufen haben, ich glaube, die Gewinne fallen jetzt etwas geringer aus....

Mal sehen, vielleicht erscheint in einer der nächsten Staffeln ja wirklich "Link" als Deluxe Edition, dann liessen sich da auch einige Euros sparen.

das waren bei mir nach der Umrechnung 24,22. Bei Colosseum kostet ja die CD allein schon 25,95 und dann kommen nochmal 3,95 für den versicherten Versand hinzu.
