The Boys from Brazil (1978) was the fourth of seven films Jerry Goldsmith composed for Franklin Schaffner, a relationship that resulted in some of Goldsmith's finest and most famous work including Patton, Planet of the Ape and Islands in the Stream. Goldsmith responded with global action and excitement for this outing. In spite of its title and location in Brazil, Goldsmith chose to eschew a Latin American flavor to the score, and at Schaffner's urging "thought waltzes." Goldsmith explained: If it sounds like Wagner and Strauss, thats because its supposed toa very deliberate attempt to emulate them. Its all done through waltzes. Theres a big difference between a German waltz and a Viennese waltz, and here the heavies are always accompanied by this heavy 3/4 ostinato. Even so...I still try to keep my own identity." The resultant score is a dark, powerful work that not only twists and turns these waltzes, but is also filled with soaring melody; rhythmic, adrenaline packed action music; and even a sweet-melodied song.

The Boys from Brazil was a novel by Ira Levin, imagining the possible consequences of cloning experiments by the infamous German concentration-camp doctor Josef Mengele and their discovery by famous Nazi hunter Yakov Liebermann. The boys from Brazil are clones of Adolf Hitler created by Mengele and strategically placed in dozens of families across Europe and North America. Laurence Olivier plays the sympathetic Jewish protagonist. Gregory Peck, in a rare bad-guy role, was cast as Mengele. James Mason portrays the Nazi colonel in charge of security for the operation. The film also stars Lilli Palmer, Uta Hagen, Denholm Elliott, Rosemary Harris, Anne Meara, Steve Guttenberg, and John Rubinstein.

Goldsmith received his 11th Academy Award nomination for the music to The Boys from Brazil. Goldsmith conducted 80 musicians of the National Philharmonic Orchestra at Anvil Studios in Denham, England, with the veteran Eric Tomlinson as engineer. His entire score for the film ran 55-minutes, and Intrada presents the entire score on disc one of this 2-CD set in film order, remixed and mastered from the original session elements with dramatically improved sonics over any previous release. Ferocious action cues (missing from LP) are highlights, as well as the lengthy "The Killers Arrive" featuring dynamic tuba/bass trombone "Nazi" motif -- another previously-unreleased gem!

The second CD painfully reconstructs Goldsmith's LP program for the original, 39-minute A&M Records release. The original 1978 LP was a favorite of the composer, and he personally edited score highlights into unique 3-movement suite plus one song. Its unusual in that the first side is just one track, 20 minutes long, and the other just three, also totaling 20 minutes. The Side One track is pieced together, of course, but it comes out very naturally; we edited it that way, rather than recorded it," reflected Goldsmith. The second CD also includes a bonus suite of alternates and source music, providing everything Goldsmith scored for the film.

For years, collector's have been asking for a complete restoration of this remarkable Jerry Goldsmith score, and some 30 years later, Intrada is able to deliver the ultimate presentation of a powerhouse score from his famous collaboration with Franklin Schaffner.

The 1986 Empire science-fiction film Ghost Warrior tells the tale of Yoshimitsu (Hiroshi Fujioka), a master of Japans 16th Century fighting arts. The film opens in battle, where Yoshi is protecting his beloved Chidori (Mieko Kobayashi) from a band of marauders. In the ensuing battle, Yoshi is separated from his love and suddenly frozen in an icy river. Flash forward to the 1980s. A pair of wayward skiers discover the ancient warriors preserved form, and it is brought to Los Angeles where Dr.Alan Richards (John Calvin) successfully revives the samurai. While the doctor makes plans to capitalize upon his fantastic achievement, Yoshi sets off on a quest to find his beloved. He has vanquished enemies from a distant timebut can he prevail on the streets of the future?

Richard Band's score is immediately beautiful, capturing not only the sadness of a lost love, but the yearning to make sense of one lost in time. While a fully orchestral score, the 16th-century scenes and flashbacks contain a flavorful, ethnic aura. "While I have always enjoyed traditional Japanese music, when I was presented with the scoring assignment for Ghost Warrior I felt the need to add something unique for the sequences set in the past," says Richard Band. Modeled after the unique style of and using the percussive instruments designed by American composer Harry Parch, Band recorded some 80 of Parch's instruments along with some traditional Japanese flutes for the score. These sessions were then added to a separate recording made in London with the Royal Philharminoc Orchestra at Olympic Studios under the baton of Shirley Walker. "Looking back, I believe it added a unique ingredient to what would turn out to be one of my favorite scoresand one which, 22 years later, I am proud to finally be able to share with my fans and the whole world."

This release is limited to 1000 units.

Das steht bei den Produkt-Details am Anfang öfter... Ist aber natürlich noch nicht ausverkauft.

Zu den BOYS: Ich würde sagen, das ist bereits jetzt DAS Release des Jahres - was bin ich glücklich, dass ich mit meiner Vermutung, eine 5000er-Auflage rechtfertige nur ein immens populärer Kultfilm, falsch lag.

Ja, die Seite wird grad schlichtweg überlastet sein.

Der Goldi ist natürlich auch ein Muss für mich. Bestellt habe ich auch bei SAE. Ich habe mir angewöhnt, nicht bei zu vielen verschiedenen Anbietern zu ordern. So behalte ich leichter den Überblick...

Hab direkt um 2.15 geordert, da gab es noch keine Probleme. DAS Release kommt gerade recht, da ich zZ. mit einem Sammler aus Japan über die A&M-Fassung am verhandeln bin. Zum Glück hab ich noch keine Entscheidung getroffen (Er wollte 80 $ und Miracle of 34th street dafür haben) und kann mich nun entspannt zurücklehnen und auf die expanded warten. Bin gespannt wie das Ganze klangtechnisch im Vergleich zur alten Master Film Music daherkommt.

Ich hatte irgenwie auf "Masada" gehofft. Aber ich denke das viele Hoffnungen zerschlagen worden sind. : )

wie macht ihr das eigentlich immer mit dem Zoll? ist der bei euch immer in der nähe? weil der goldsmith geht ja über 22euro.

Zu 99% geht die CD durch. Falls nicht: Die Gefahr, dass Du zum Zollamt hinmusst, ist sehr gering. Falls Du doch einen Brief bekommst: anrufen und das telefonsich klären, evt. Rechnung per Fax schicken. Das hat mit "meinem" Zollamt in Düren (40 km entfernt) immer geklappt und die haben es dann zurück in die Poststelle geschickt, so dass der Postbote mir das Päckchen zwei Tage später dann zugestellt hat. Das waren aber ganz ganz seltene Ausnahmefälle. Seit über zwei Jahren haben ich nun keinen Zoll mehr bezahlen müssen!

also mir blieb THE BOYS FROM BRAZIL vor allem wegen dem einzigartigen

Larry Olivier als WIESENTHAL in Erinnerung...die Titelmelodie, dieser

überdimensionale Walzer von Goldsmith schmeckt mir persönlich

gar nicht. Ein Science Fiction score hätte die apokalyptische Stimmung

eines angedeuteten Vierten Reichs wohl besser getroffen.

Das ist aber nur meine ganz eigene Meinung zu dieser Musik.
