Will Beall (ABC's "Castle") is in negotiations to write the script for Warner Bros. Pictures' Logan's Run, says Heat Vision. Beall's Gangster Squad just received the green light at the studio as well.

Nicolas Winding Refn is attached to direct Logan's Run with Ryan Gosling starring. Joel Silver and Akiva Goldsman are producing.

The 1976 original starred Michael York, Jenny Agutter and Farrah Fawcett. It was based on a 1967 novel by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson. The premise sees a future society that demands the death of everyone upon reaching a certain age. Anyone who veers from that destiny is dubbed a "runner" and is hunted by operatives known as Sandmen. Logan is a Sandman who is forced to go on the run.

Alex Garland wrote the previous draft of the new film.

Naja, fast alle seine Musik klingt so und noch besser, daher kann ich eigentlich auch alles von ihm empfehlen. Weiter unten dann ein paar konkrete CD-Tipps...

John Adams ist ein Vertreter der amerikanischen Minimal Music (wie Philip Glass und Steve Reich, in der Filmmusik auch Elliot Goldenthal und Don Davis) - eigentlich kann man ihn jedoch auch schon dem Post-Minimalismus zurechnen, da er einen sehr eigensinnigen Minimalismus kultiviert, einen Minimalismus, der über die ursprüngliche Minimal Music von Steve Reich hinausgeht, und der auch andere Stilelemente miteinbezieht, etwa Spätromantisches und z.T. auch Atonalität. Im Grunde steht John Adams für einen stilistisch "erweiterten" Minimalismus.

Meine persönliche Lieblings-CD von Adams ist die mit seinem Klavierkonzert "Century Rolls" und dem witzigen "Western"-Stück "Lollapalooza". Ebenfalls enthalten ist das leicht Stravinsky-hafte "Slonimsky´s Earbox":

Eine wunderbare Einsteiger-CD ist auch diese Veröffentlichung mit einigen Adams-Werken unter dem Dirigat von Sir Simon Rattle (hier ist die oben gepostete "Short Ride in a Fast Machine" enthalten, sowie ebenfalls die tollen "The Chairman Dances" - eine Auskopplung aus seiner Oper NIXON IN CHINA - sowie seine etwas größer angelegte "Harmonielehre", welche in ihren Ausmaßen schon fast einer Sinfonie gleich kommt):

Wenn dir Adams gefällt, empfehle ich dir auch unbedingt den Film I AM LOVE mit Tilda Swinton aus dem letzten Jahr - da wird nur Musik von Adams verwendet (umwerfende Wirkung im Film!), u.a. eben sein Klavierkonzert "Century Rolls", "Lollapalooza" und noch andere Werke. Es gibt einen Soundtrack, wo Zusammenschnitte bzw. Exzerpte aus den im Film verwendeten Werken enthalten sind:

Opern hat der gute Mann auch schon einige geschrieben - die als Politsatire angelegte Oper NIXON IN CHINA von 1985 gehört da zu seinen besten und wichtigsten (auch eine meiner absoluten Lieblingsopern). Eine Gesamtaufnahme empfehle ich dir als Einsteiger jetzt aber noch nicht, sondern den Querschnitt, der alle Highlights versammelt:

Das dürfte für den Anfang genügen - wenn du irgendwann weitere Empfehlungen brauchst, frag einfach.

Ich vergaß zu erwähnen: John Adams ist der wichtigste lebende amerikanische Komponist. War nur eine Frage der Zeit, bis sich in den 90ern die ersten Filmkomponisten auf ihn bezogen haben (Goldenthal, Davis, später auch Gordon). Adams' Hauptwerk fällt übrigens in die 80er und 90er Jahre.

Production Start Targeted for Fall 2011

(Beverly Hills, CA) April 7, 2011 Relativity Medias President of Worldwide Production Tucker Tooley and Edward R. Pressman, the prolific producer behind The Crow franchise, announced today they have closed a deal for Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) to direct a re-invention of The Crow, the 1994 smash hit film based on the comic book series and comic strip by James OBarr. Relativity and Pressman will be teaming with Spain-based Apaches Entertainment on the production which is targeted to start in Fall 2011.

Fresnadillo is best known for directing 28 Weeks Later, the post-apocalyptic horror sequel to 28 Days Later, which he co-wrote and produced with long-time producing partner, Apaches Entertainments Enrique López Lavigne. Fresnadillo also directed the critically-acclaimed Spanish-language film Intacto and is currently in post-production on Intruders starring Clive Owen, also being produced by Apaches Entertainment.

Fresnadillowill collaboratively develop the script once a writer is attached to adapt the screenplay. Casting has not yet been announced.

The film is being produced by Edward R. Pressman, Jeff Most, Relativitys CEO Ryan Kavanaugh, and ApachesEnrique López Lavigne and Belén Atienza. Relativitys Tooley (The Fighter) will serve as executive producer. José Ibáñez, Pressman Film Corporations Jon Katz, and Apaches Jesús de la Vega will serve as co-producers.

The Crow adaptation will be a reboot of the iconic cult character Eric Draven, whos resurrected as The Crow to avenge his wifes murder so he can reunite with her in the hereafter, as first envisioned by graphic novelist James OBarr.

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is an incredibly talented and imaginative filmmaker, said Tooley. We are thrilled to have him at the helm and are excited to work with both Pressman and Apaches on what we all believe will be a compelling and innovative reimagining of The Crow.

Producer Edward R. Pressman remarks, The original Crow was groundbreaking cinema; its gothic visual and musical ideas influenced a generation and cinema itself. With Juan Carlos, we have every confidence that his new Crow will have a similar impact on the contemporary audience.

Neue Rollen für Tobey Maguire und Willem Dafoe.

Weve got a couple of casting stories for you today, both involving adaptations of books. First up, Variety reports that Tobey Maguire is re-teaming with director Ang Lee for his adaptation of Yann Martels Life of Pi. The story centers on a boy named Pi who gets stranded for 227 days with a tiger. Maguire will play the man who interviews the adult Pi about his experience. The cast for the 3D film now includes newcomer Suraj Sharma, Irrfan Khan (In Treatment), Adil Hussain (Calendar Girls), and Gerard Depardieu. The film is slated for a December 14th, 2012 release.

Additionally, Willem Dafoe is in talks to join director Stephen Sommers (The Mummy) adaptation of the Dean Koontz supernatural thriller Odd Thomas. The film centers on a short-order cook who can commune with the dead. Heat Vision reports that Dafoe is in talks to play a local police chief. Als thriller dürfte odd thomas dann auch nicht so lange in der produktion sein wie z.b. effektlastigere filme. Wer weiß, vielleicht kommt odd thomas schon ende des Jahres ins kino, zusammen mit einem neuen und hoffentlich ungewöhnlichen silvestri score. Auf jeden fall mal was anderes für regisseur und komponist.

Sally Field scheint wohl neben Daniel Day Lewis in Spielberg's "Lincoln" mitzuspielen.

Sally Field was officially in Washington Tuesday for the Vital Voices gala and unofficially to research her role as Mary Todd Lincoln. Surprised? We were, too. Back in 2007, the Oscar-winning actress was rumored for the plum role in Steven Spielbergs upcoming movie about Abraham Lincoln but not a peep about it since then, not even when Dreamworks announced last year that Daniel Day-Lewis would play the title role.

But Field confirmed it Tuesday when she visited Fords Theatre. We learned the actress took a private tour of the theater and museum with executive director Paul Tetreault and Sarah Jencks, an expert on Mary Todd Lincoln, in order to better understand the former first lady.

The studio acknowledged the casting choice to us Wednesday. Im excited to be working with Sally for the first time, Spielberg said in a statement. Ive admired her films, and she has always been my first choice to portray all the fragility and complexity that was Mary Todd Lincoln.

To play one of the most complicated and colorful women in American history is simply as good as it gets, Field said in a statement also released by the studio.

She spent about an hour at Fords trying to get a sense of Marys day-to-day life: carefully examining her dishes and a blue fan she owned. She was absolutely riveted by that, said Tetreault. But the actress declined a chance to look at an exhibit about the assassination. That was just one incident in her life, and I dont want to obsess on that, Field told them. And she skipped the theaters most popular attraction: The presidential box where the Lincolns were sitting when he was shot. No, I dont need to see that, she said.

The long-delayed project, based on historian Doris Kearns Goodwins bestselling Team of Rivals, is finally scheduled to start filming this fall with a release date in late 2012. The script by Tony Kushner will focus on the Civil War years. Liam Neeson was originally slated to play the 16th president but, after several delays, bowed out last year because he thought he was getting too old for the role.

Spielberg visited with Virginia film officials in Richmond last November, although no one would confirm anything about the movie at that time. But last week, the General Assembly approved an amendment that puts $1.5 million in the states motion picture opportunity fund; $500,000 had been set aside for Spielberg's production, reports our colleague Anita Kumar. Doesnt mean that filming in the state is a done deal but looks promising.
