Neues von David Cronenberg

Obwohl er noch mitten in der Post-Produktion von "Cosmopolis" steckt, hat Kultregisseur Cronenberg schon das nächste Projekt auf dem Tisch liegen: "As She Climbed Across the Table" (US-Originaltitel).

Media Rights Capital hat sich die Filmrechte an Jonathan Lethems düsteren Comedythriller "Als Sie über den Tisch kletterte" (2005) gesichert. Regie führen soll kein geringerer als Kultfilmer David Cronenberg ("Scanners", A History of Violence").

In dem komisch-grotesken Roman geht es um die fatale Liebe der Physikerin Alice Coombs zu einem schwarzen Loch. Jenes ist durch ein wissenschaftliches Experiment entstanden, bei dem versucht wurde, den Urknall zu reproduzieren. Das Experiment scheitert, zurück bleibt nur ein undefinierbares Vakuum, das Alice durch sein geheimnisvolles Verhalten in den Bann zieht. Klingt nach der richtigen Story für Cronenberg, der beispielsweise schon mit "Crash" 1996 einen ähnlich schrägen Stoff verfilmte: Eine Clique provoziert, während sie Sex am Steuer haben, absichtlich Autounfälle, um damit ihr Sexleben aufzufrischen.

Während das Drehbuch zu "Als Sie über den Tisch kletterte" bereits in Auftrag gegeben wurde, muss nur noch Universal sein endgültiges Okay für die Adaption geben. Angesichts dieser viel versprechenden Kombination von verrückter Story und außergewöhnlichem Filmemacher wäre ein Nein überraschend - und schade.

Warner Bros. has released the first official photo of Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises. Trading cat ears for high tech goggles and a bat-pod, Nolan’s Catwoman appears to be an incarnation of the character unlike anything we’ve seen before. She fits the more practical, less theatrical approach of Nolan’s previous Batman characters, but this also raises the question of whether or not Selina Kyle will actually have the name Catwoman in the film – the photo simply bears the title Selina Kyle, as have the official press releases.

So Austin Powers 4 geht voran... hoffentlich dann auch wieder mit Musik von George S Clinton

It's been a few years since we last heard about any development on a fourth entry in the Austin Powers franchise, but HitFix is now reporting that Mike Myers has just signed on for the comedy sequel.

In 2008 it was said that Myers was drafting Austin Powers 4 with Michael McCullers, who teamed with the comedy star for all three previous entries. The focus was to be on the character of Dr. Evil rather than Powers himself and would again feature Seth Green as Evil's son, Scott. Whether this element will carry over to the latest iteration of the project remains to be seen.

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery was released in 1997 and was followed by two sequels, The Spy Who Shagged Me in 1999 and Goldmember in 2002.

Outside of voicing the title character in DreamWorks' Shrek franchise, Myers has not headlined a feature since 2008's poorly-received The Love Guru.

Außerdem stoppt Disney vorerst die Produktion zu "Lone Ranger"

Walt Disney Pictures has halted production on The Lone Ranger, Deadline reports. This comes as surprising news as the project has been fully cast and was planned to begin shooting this fall.

Described by Verbinksi as "'Don Quixote' told from Sancho Panza's point of view," the film was to star Armie Hammer as the titular western hero with Johnny Depp as his Native American sidekick, Tonto. The supporting cast was to include Ruth Wilson, Dwight Yoakam, Helena Bonham Carter, James Badge Dale and Barry Pepper.

The reason for the move is said to be due to ballooning production costs and an increasingly expensive upcoming slate for the studio. Still, the most recent collaboration between Depp and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, has grossed more than a billion dollars internationally. That film also belonged to a franchise launched by Verbinski.

Though planned for a December 21, 2012 release, the future of The Lone Ranger is now uncertain.

UPDATE: Variety is now reporting that Disney still plans to move forward on the project but is in the process of bringing down costs in order to do so. Whether this will result in a delay of production remains to be seen, but check back for updates as they become available.

Erstmal frage ich mich natürlich, wie ein Film wie "Lo0ne Ranger" 250 Millionen kosten soll... was haben die nur vor mit der Vorlage.. ich befürchte wirklich schlimmes....

Naja nun wollen Bruckheimer das Budget auf 215 Mill. runterkürzen..

At a reported budget of $250 million, you have to wonder if anyone behind Gore Verbinskis The Lone Ranger actually has respect for the source material. The character is a guy with a Native American partner who fights bad guys. Thats about it. But apparently thats not cool enough for modern audiences and this notion that bloated spectacle is automatically better is why you now have Disney holding off on making The Lone Ranger and their sticking point is that they have to make it cost $215 to $220 million (or less) instead of $250 million. A source tells THR, It all starts with [Verbinski]. If there is any saving this version of the movie, hell have to find substantial savings. If he can, maybe we can hold this together. Only in modern blockbuster filmmaking run amuck could knocking $30 million off a $250 million budget qualify as substantial savings.

Hit the jump on why the film still costs so much and why Disney remains skittish (and rightfully so). Johnny Depp is still attached to play Tonto with Armie Hammer set as the title character.

If youre wondering how a freaking western can cost $250 million, heres how:

The original script included werewolves and other supernatural creatures from Native American myths. Those bells and whistles have been jettisoned, but according to sources who have read recent drafts, three massive action set pieces involving trains remain, including one described as the biggest train sequence in film history.

I can get on board with one train sequence (how can you do three in one movie unless its something routine like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid?) and making it really spectacular. But Verbinski has reached the point where he doesnt know how to go small. That doesnt mean he now makes bad movies (Rango is one of the years best), but hes asking Disney to make a huge gamble on a film that could easily flop.

We dont even need to go back to The Wild Wild West (another big-budget adaptation of an old western TV series) to see how this could all go terrible wrong. We can go back eight months. First, there was The Green Hornet, which was also based on an old TV and radio serial. It was a flop because the audience it was trying to reach (male teenagers) had never heard of The Green Hornet and I seriously doubt that demographic is familiar with The Lone Ranger.

And then of course theres Cowboys & Aliens. You can put two major stars in the leading roles and youll still barely beat out the freaking Smurfs (and then sink like a stone in the following weeks). Part of that has to do with the movie not being any good and its spectacle being unspectacular. However, its also proof that audiences arent going to automatically go for a high-concept western and may prefer something that doesnt feel the need to embellish on a genre (e.g. True Grit).

Disney also has prior obligations to the $300 million John Carter. But theyre also a studio that has gambled big in the past and come up with huge victories. Last year they became the first studio in history to have two films gross over a billion dollars worldwide (Alice in Wonderland and Toy Story 3). However, the studio also played hardball with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, lowered the budget and still got a $1 billion worldwide gross.

Even if Disney and the filmmakers are able to negotiate the movie down to $215 million, that price tag basically says We want the title, the lead characters, and well CGI in some charm in post.

Following his work on Prometheus, Ridley Scott is ready to return to the world of "BladeRunner," reports Deadline. The site says that Scott is committing to direct and produce "a film that advances his other seminal and groundbreaking science fiction film."

While the site says it is not sure if the project will be a sequel or prequel to the 1982 film, Warner Bros-based financing and production company Alcon Entertainment announced earlier this year that they had secured film, television and ancillary franchise rights to produce prequels and sequels to the iconic sci-fi original.

Back then, Alcon said that the franchise rights "would be all-inclusive, but exclude rights to remake the original. The Company, however, may produce projects based on situations introduced in the original film."

Alcon co-founders and co-Chief Executive Officers Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove will produce along with Bud Yorkin. Cynthia Sikes Yorkin will co-produce. Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble, CEO's of Thunderbird Films, will serve as executive producers.

Dan Aykroyd loves to keep hope alive that there will be a Ghostbusters 3 someday even though I’ve never met anyone who was hoping for a new Ghostbusters movie. Today, Aykroyd appeared on Dennis Miller’s radio show [via ComingSoon] and strongly hinted that the movie is happening in spring 2012 no matter what. Seriously this time:

“Yes, we will be doing the movie and hopefully with Mr. Murray,” he says, “That is our hope. We have an excellent script. What we have to remember is that ‘Ghostbusters’ is bigger than any one component, although Billy was absolutely the lead and contributive to it in a massive way, as was the director and Harold [Ramis], myself and Sigourney [Weaver]. The concept is much larger than any individual role and the promise of ‘Ghostbusters 3′ is that we get to hand the equipment and the franchise down to new blood.”

Aykroyd reiterated the point that the new film will feature a new generation of Ghostbusters:

“My character, Ray, is now blind in one eye and can’t drive the cadillac,” he says, “He’s got a bad knee and can’t carry the packs… Egon is too large to get into the harness. We need young blood and that’s the promise. We’re gonna hand it to a new generation.”

Aykroyd adds that there’s no casting yet for the new leads (three guys and a girl), but he likes Matthew Gray Gubler (Criminal Minds). We previously reported that in addition to the young blood, Dana’s son would now be a Ghostbuster and that Dr. Venkman would be a ghost. If Aykroyd is saying they can do Ghostbusters 3 with or without Murray, then does that imply Ghost Venkman was never a crucial character to begin with? And if Murray did sign on, wouldn’t fans expect him to have a significant role?

I’m also baffled as to why it’s taken them this long to figure out that Murray is ambivalent about the project and that if they really wanted to make a sequel, they should have just gone forward without him. I love Murray, but does anyone want to see him in a film that he doesn’t care about?

So Aykroyd says spring 2012 is when they’re going to start filming. Let’s take a trip down memory lane:

Naja, wenn jetzt nichtmal Murrays Teilnahme als sicher bezeichnet werden kann, dann wollen sie es mal wieder übers knie brechen. Hauptsache reboot mit jüngerer crew damit schön weiter sequels gemacht werden können und die geldmaschine läuft. Als noch alle beteiligten vom ersten film sicher dabei waren klang es irgendwie nach einer guten Idee, aber jetzt finde ich sollten sie es lieber lassen. Ich ahne irgendwie nix gutes.

Ich setz nun mal meine rosa Brille auf und sage, dass die Crew so Murray etwas Druck machen möchte. Vielleicht zierte er sich absichtlich und entwickelte Allüren "Ohne mich geht da gar nichts". So könnten die ja nun sagen: "doch, geht es. Wir machen diesen Film, ob du dabei bist, oder nicht". Vielleicht bewirkt es was und er lenkt ein.

Und ohne diese rosa Brille des hoffnungsvollen Optimisten, sondern mit der schwarzen des Pessimisten:

Ein dritter Teil, in dem nur 3/4 der ursprünglichen Crew dabei sind, die ihre "Nachfolger" ausbilden, weil die Herren in Rente wollen, wo Dr. Venkman schon ist. Das ganze mit voll-fetten CGI-Effekten und mit krasser Action und dem üblichen "Musikbett" moderner Filme.

Nun, was davon eintritt... Wir werden sehen. Ich hoffe stark, dass Murray einlenkt und sie einen schönen, fast altmodischen "Ghostbusters"-Film machen mit dem Charme der ersten beiden Teile.

Gehts noch abgedroschener? Mclane soll endlich mal die islamisten in den religiösen wahnsinn treiben. Aber das ist denen bestimmt wieder zu "real".

Auf Skip Woods lass ich aber nichts kommen. THURSDAY ist spitze und seine solo Scripts zu SWORDFISH und HITMAN sind auch sehr gut. WOLVERINE wurde von David Benioff und A-TEAM von Brian Bloom und Joe Carnahan versemmelt. Wenn Woods alleine schreiben darf kommt durchaus was stimmiges bei raus.

Ich finde den dritten Teil am besten. Der hat ein irrwitziges Tempo, wirkt unglaublich roh und physisch ("real hand-made") und hat mit dem großartigen Jeremy Irons einen Bösewicht, der mit Alan Rickman auf Augenhöhe konkurriert. Außerdem ist er angemessen blutig, was z.B. in Teil 4 vollkomen fehlt. "Hard" stirbt man halt nur, wenn man auch ein bisschen Saft verliert...

Das wird jetzt wahrscheinlich etwas off-topic, aber der einzige DIE HARD-Film, mit dem ich nix anfangen kann ist Renny Harlins Teil 2. LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD hat eine hübsche erste Hälfte, ...WITH A VENGEANCE macht mir fast soviel Vergnügen wie der Allererste (wobei die Drehbücher von 3&4 ja ursprünglich nicht für die DIE HARD-Reihe gedacht waren).

Ich bin bei Film fünf durchaus gspannt - nicht so sehr auf den Film (ist in der Serie nicht schon alles gezeigt und probiert worden?), sondern darauf, wie der verkauft und vermarktet wird. Zumindest erfreulich, dass da kein Re-Boot/Re-Launch ansteht.

Was haben alle immer gegen den zweiten Teil?! Der ist nur geil! Richtig schön brutal, mit einem bomben Score von Kamen & Co und das Finale auf dem Flugzeug geht mal nur ab. Das Skywalk Shootout wird sogar von John Woo in THE KILLER zitiert, soviel zur Klasse des Films.

Hoppla, wie bin ich denn darauf gekommen?! Hast recht, THE KILLER ist tatsächlich ein Jahr früher rausgekommen. DIE HARD 2 ist dennoch goil
