Talking to the Los Angeles Times about "Hollywood's hottest composer" Pixar-regular Michael Giacchino, Brad Bird confirms that he will 'insist' that Giacchino score his next film, the live-action Warner Bros./Disney/Pixar co-production, 1906.

Bird, who worked with the Up composer on The Incredibles and Ratatouille, says that "the feeling with Michael is like being a kid and going over to your best friend's place to play. He can throw on a cape as well as cowboy boots, or whatever is required, to have fun."

Interestingly, The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) now lists Pixar's involvement with 1906, scheduled to premiere in 2012, as consisting of "financial support". No mention of any special effects creation as was rumored at one point, in line with what Ed Catmull said last August about Pixar not becoming a special effects company.

Bryan Singer Confirms X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST; Teases Connectivity With Past Films

Producer Bryan Singer has confirmed the title of the X-Men: First Class sequel as being Days of Future Past, and also teases a possible crossover with the past X-Men films, as well as revealing whether or not he would helm another film starring the characters.

Talking to IGN Movies, Bryan Singer (X-Men, X-2) has confirmed that Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class sequel will be called Days of Future Past. The title has been rumoured for a while now, but this is the first official word we've heard from someone involved with the sequel. Revealing that it will deal with, "aspects of that comic" it is based on, Singer seemingly hints that time travel will indeed play a role as he discusses an expanded universe and more connectivity between these prequels and the past X-Men movies. Does this mean that we'll see Hugh Jackman's Wolverine appear? How about the "Original Five" X-Men? Stay tuned for further details as we get ever closer to the release of X-Men: Days of Future Past in July, 2014.

"I can say that it's being written right now and it will start shooting in a few months. It's going to be very ambitious; it's called Days of Future Past and it deals with aspects of that comic, but also some very new things. I don't want to give any of it away. Matthew Vaughn will be directing and I'm totally excited about it."

"I think there's a strong desire to broaden out the universe. I mean, the X-Men universe is every bit on its own as big as the Marvel universe. Neuigkeiten zum nächsten X-Men-Film...

Tja, da bin ich aber sehr gespannt. Klar, könnte man mit Jackmans Wolverine und Ellen Page als Kitty Pryde machen, aber wenn da zuviel "Aspekte des Comics" verwendet werden, wird das wohl weniger eine XMFC- als eine X-MEN 3-Fortsetzung. Und ob ich das wirklich will...

Die Vorlage ist immerhin eine der grössten X-Men-Geschichten, da liesse sich was draus machen -

Würde ich wollen. So gut, wie ich "First Class" fand, so unglücklich finde ich es insgesamt, wie Fox mit dem Franchise umgeht. Jetzt hat man drei Filme, die trotz Tabula rasa am Ende nicht richtig abgeschlossen wirken. Man hat ein Wolverine-Spin off (Teil 2 ist ja in der Mache), das irgendwie eigenständig in der Luft hängt, aber doch nur ein Spin off ist. Und man hat ein Prequel-Franchise. Und alle drei "Stränge" stehen ohne richtige Verbindung nebeneinander. Ach, und dann kommen die Macher jetzt erst, also 13 Jahre nach Teil 1, darauf, dass man die Filme stärker miteinander in Verbindung bringen könnte. Sehr schwach.

Das ist immerhin ein Schlüsselaspekt der Comic-Vorlage. Aber Du hast recht, dass die X-Men im Kino eher konfus auftreten (wobei ich X-MEN III echt indiskutabel fand).

Den fand ich schon ok. Ich kann mich der Kritik an Brett Ratner insgesamt nicht anschließen, da ich eigentlich alle seine Filme ganz gerne mag. "X-Men III" ist nach dem großartigen zweiten Teil ein deutlicher Rückschritt gewesen, krankte aber vor allem an seinem hohen Tempo. Dafür war die Action schon recht zünftig. Ich fand den ersten Teil aber auch nicht so übermäßig gut, denn die Story kam nicht recht aus den Puschen und die Action war viel zu brav.

Comic-Vorlage hin oder her, Zeitreisen sorgen doch an dem Punkt, an dem das Franchise nun angelangt ist, eher für Konfusion. Aber ich lasse mich gerne positiv überraschen...

Ich hab nix gegen Ratner (bin ja auch ein Fan von, ähhh, TOWER HEIST), aber nach X2 hatte ich schon gehofft, die da vorbereitete "Dark Phoenix"-Geschichte würde mit angemessener emotionaler Wucht umgesetzt werden. Tatsächlich gibts in LAST STAND aber nur von allem viel zuviel (Charaktere, Action- und Effekt-Szenen) oder deutlich zuwenig (z.B. Gefühl: Wenn Jean Grey in X2 stirbt, fürchtet man, die Hälfte ihrer Freunde würde sich gleich von der Klippe, vor den Zug oder in einen Reaktorkern stürzen; in X3 sterben Professor X und Cyclops, da wird kurz trüb geguckt, dann gehts - business as usual - mit dem nächsten Action-Setpiece weiter).

Aber, von wegen: versöhnen statt spalten, in einem sind wir uns in jedem Fall einig: Die X-Men hätte man im Kino besser organisieren und auftreten lassen können. Und dass Bryan Singer statt X-MEN: THE LAST STAND lieber den ehrfürchtig-zähen SUPERMAN RETURNS drehen wollte, war ein echter Fehler für alle.

Einen Haken hat es übrigens, wenn man versucht, die ersten drei X-Filme und das/die Prequel(s) zusammen zu bringen: Da sich Autoren und Filmemacher verdammt viel Freiheiten mit den Comic-Vorlagen genommen haben, gäbe es unschönsten Chronologie/Mytholgie/Verwandtschafts-Kuddelmuddel (Beispiel: Havok aus XMFC ist eigentlich der kleine Bruder von Cyclops; Azazel ist Vater von Nightcrawler;)...

Wenn du weiter auf den (zugegeben braven aber) großartigen "Superman Returns" rumhackst, spalte ich lieber als mich zu versöhnen...

Ansonsten stimme ich gerne zu. "X3" habe ich bislang auch nur als Popcorn-Film genommen ohne den emotionalen Unterbau, den "X2" hatte. Ich fand ihn aber bei weitem nicht so schlecht, wie er oftmals geredet wird. Dass Filmen aber insgesamt zunehmend diese Wucht und Eindringlichkeit fehlt, merke ich seit einigen Jahren immer häufiger - aktuellste Beispiele sind "John Carter" und "Safe House", die zwar ganz gelungen waren, aber ohne sonderlichen Nachhall an mir vorbei gegangen sind...

Will Bill Murray appear in Ghostbusters 3? That's been the question asked for years now, but Dan Aykroyd has now made it quite clear - he's not. Talking to Metro , Aykroyd gave an update on the filming:

Is Ghostbusters 3 finally happening?

Yes, we've got a brilliant new writer on it and we'll be passing the torch on to a new generation. We're working on it to make it just right to satisfy our fans. I'm confident we'll be in production in the next year.

It's been a long process, hasn't it?

Yes, but now we've got the studio on side. We've tried a few concepts which weren't right but now we've got a good structure and will make it happen.

Is Bill Murray doing it?

No, I can tell you he won't be involved.

How do you feel about that?

It's sad but we're passing it on to a new generation. Ghostbusters 3 can be a successful movie without Bill. My preference would be to have him involved but at this point he doesn't seem to be coming and we have to move on. It's time to make the third one.

Aykroyd previously said that in the third film, "my character’s eyesight is shot, I got a bad knee, a bad hip—I can’t drive that caddy anymore or lift that Psychotron Accelerator anymore, it’s too heavy. We need young legs, new minds—new Ghostbusters; so I’m in essence passing the torch to the new regime, and you know what? That’s totally okay with me."

Nach dem Interview mit Aykroyd versteh ich Murray.

Im Grunde sagt Aykroyd aber nichts, was er nicht mittlerweile schon zig Mal genau so vorher gesagt hat. Und wir erinnern uns, nach seiner letzten "Murray ist definitiv nicht dabei"-Aussage kam das zaghafte "Eventuell, unter Umständen, vielleicht" von Murray. Und Aykroyd sagt ja auch "At this point he doesn´t seem to be coming", also "Im Moment sieht es nicht so aus, als wäre er dabei", obwohl er einen Satz vorher sagt "He won´t be involved", also "Er wird definitiv nicht dabei sein."

Das Rumgeier seit über zwei Jahren ist langsam aber sicher ziemlich nervig. Am Ende wird der Film gar nicht gemacht, dann kann man ein Making of darüber machen, wie damals über Terry Gilliams Versuch, "The Man who killed Don Quichote" zu verfilmen. Das kann man dann auch nennen "The Making of the not making of Ghostbusters III".

Das erste Drehbuch schrieb Aykroyd bereits Anfang der 90er, daraus wurde letztendlich "Ghostbusters - The Video Game" 2009. Dann wurden die beiden Autoren von "The Office" ("Stromberg" im Original) mit einem Drehbuch beauftragt. Das Drehbuch gibt es auch schon, aber stiess vor allem bei Murray auf nicht viel Gegenliebe. Nun hat man mit Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder) einen neuen Autoren gefunden, der jetzt am nächsten Drehbuch schreibt.

Auch so ein Projekt, was mal gestorben ist und dann wieder neue Gerüchte aufkommen.. nun soll Russel Crowe die Hauptrolle in "Stephen King's The Dark Tower" spielen.. wird so gemunkelt in Hollywood..

The Dark Tower's journey to the screen is going to make one helluva coffee table book. We can't recount its entire history here, but it's long. Instead, let's focus on where the Stephen King adaptation is at right now.

The last we heard, Javier Bardem was attached to play Roland. Producers Ron Howard and Brian Grazer were overseeing Akiva Goldsman's work on the script. And it was going to be epic. An ambitious adaptation that sprawled across three films.

There have been some changes on the leading man front, however...

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. Pictures is about to get a script from Goldsman soon and it will evaluate how it wants to move forward.

Furthermore, Javier Bardem is out and the adaptation is now being pitched as a vehicle for Russell Crowe to play Roland Deschain. That doesn't mean Crowe is a "lock" - it's just a possibility for now. We'll hear soon enough whether the studio will fly with the project or not.

Crowe stars in Warner Bros.' upcoming Superman movie Man of Steel and Paramount's Noah.

Legendary Pictures is moving forward with their World of Warcraft feature film, bringing aboard screenwriter Charles Leavitt to provide a rewrite. Variety has the news, saying that a search will soon be on for a new director, replacing the formerly attached Sam Raimi.

Blizzard Entertainment's "Warcraft" universe is a rich fantasy setting that revolves around the epic conflict between the opposing forces of the Horde and the Alliance. Since its debut in 1994, "Warcraft" has developed a loyal following across the globe, with several bestselling, award-winning PC games and a range of popular licensed products including novels, action figures, apparel, comic books, board games, and more. "World of Warcraft," Blizzard Entertainment's subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game set in the Warcraft universe, is the most popular game of its kind in the world.

Leavitt is best known for films like K-Pax, Blood Diamond and the upcoming The Seventh Son.

“Don’t want to say more than a few words about it but it is an all around excellent film. I’ve yet to see one bad PSH performance but this one may be his best. 2hrs 10 min. Will get nods for Picture. Good chance of winning original screenplay and acting awards. If it were me, I’d put them both in the Best Actor category but if one them is getting the supporting nod, its Hoffman. It will have its fair share of detractors and its not a “safe” choice. If you guys can, see The Master in 70 mm. Looked gorgeous and its the way P.T Anderson wants you to see it. “

Jeff Wells over at Hollywood Elsewhere also had a source at the screening that chimed in with a more thorough reaction:

“I’m still digesting everything I saw, but it was pretty amazing. It was like a strange fever dream. [but] not audience friendly AT ALL. An ambiguous ending and not one likable character. And without any ‘milkshake’ lines, it probably won’t have the breakthrough that There Will Be Blood had… There are three or four scenes between Phoenix and Hoffman that are barn burners. It also containts the best work Amy Adams has ever done… Phoenix WILL win Best Actor unless Daniel Day Lewis blows us away with [his] Lincoln performance. This is Raging Bull territory for him. Believe it or not, his performance is stranger than that fake doc he made. The only way I can describe him is ‘animalistic.’ (I think the Master title refers to more of a dog and his master. At least that was the vibe I got).. The style feels like Terrence Malick by way of There Will Be Blood.”

Batman kommt wohl 2016 zurück.. als Reboot.. wenig überraschend

Seit dem 27. Juli erobert The Dark Knight Rises hierzulande die Kinoleinwände und auch international kann der dritte Teil der Dark Knight-Trilogie von Christopher Nolan auf ein stolzes Einspielergebnis von weit über 500 Millionen Dollar verweisen – nach knappen zwei Wochen Spielzeit. Grund genug für die Verantwortlichen bei Warner Bros, über den Fortgang des dunklen Ritters nachzudenken. Bereits The Dark Knight Rises eröffnete mit seinen letzten Minuten Spekulationen über weitere Filme des Franchises. Neuesten Gerüchten zufolge ist eine deutliche Tendenz Richtung Reboot zu verzeichnen. Auf Joblo.com ist bereits ein grober Überlick inklusive einiger Eckdaten zusammengetragen worden.

Das Reboot des Batman-Franchises ist für das Jahr 2016 angesetzt. Damit würde sogar die Zeitspanne von fünf Jahren zwischen Spider-Man 3 von Sam Raimi und dem darauffolgenden Neustart The Amazing Spider-Man von Marc Webb übertroffen werden, wenn die Batman-Fans bereits in vier Jahren Gothams Rächer erneut über die Leinwand flitzen sehen. Als Titel des Reboots setzt sich ganz knapp und prägnant The Batman durch und entgegen aller Erwartungen verdichten sich die Gerüchte, dass es sich um keine Origin-Story handeln wird. Stattdessen ist geplant, direkt aus dem zweiten Jahr von Bruce Waynes Machenschaften als schwarzer Ritter zu erzählen, was eine unkonventionelle Herangehensweise für ein Reboot wäre.

Trotzdem stellen sich die obligatorischen Fragen, ob The Batman wirklich schon 2016 nötig ist oder ob es überhaupt noch etwas Interessantes über den schwarzen Rächer und seine Spielgefährten zu erzählen gibt. Nach kurzer Betrachtung des Repertoires an Batman-Literatur, kann zumindest die zweite Frage mit einem deutlichen Ja beantwortet werden. Die Comic-Reihen und Graphic Novels rund um den schwarzen Rächer sind vielfältig und umfangreich. Insofern sollte genügend Stoff für das kommende Reboot vorhanden sein, um nicht nur von den vorhergegangenen Filmen kopieren zu müssen. Was kommt also nach Christopher Nolans Dark Knight-Trilogie (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises), dem Bombon-Klamuak (Batman Forever, Batman & Robin) von Joel Schumacher und den detailverliebten Batman-Filmen (Batman, Batmans Rückkehr) von Tim Burton auf uns zu?

Der nächste große Film wird verschoben, Luhrmann's THE GREAT GATSBY gibts jetzt erst nächsten Sommer:

Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures have moved the release date for The Great Gatsby to Summer 2013. The announcement was made today by Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution, and Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, President of International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures. The film was originally scheduled to hit theaters on December 25, 2012.

In making the announcement, Fellman stated, “Based on what we’ve seen, Baz Luhrmann’s incredible work is all we anticipated and so much more. It truly brings Fitzgerald’s American classic to life in a completely immersive, visually stunning and exciting way. We think moviegoers of all ages are going to embrace it, and it makes sense to ensure this unique film reaches the largest audience possible.”
