News über den Wikileaks Film

 

 

The previously untitled WikiLeaks film directed by Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) will now be titled The Fifth Estate.  The first image from the film has also debuted.  It features Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) as Julian Assange with Daniel Brühl (Inglourious Basterds) as Daniel Domscheit-Berg.  The Fifth Estate centers on the polarizing figure of Assange from the rise of his WikiLeaks website to the eventual controversial explosion over leaked government documents.  The film is now slated to release on November 15, 2013.  Hit the jump for the full press release and to see the first image from The Fifth Estate.

LOS ANGELES, CA (January 22, 2013) – Principal photography has begun on the WikiLeaks drama “The Fifth Estate,” it was announced today by DreamWorks Studios. The film about the controversial website stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Julian Assange and Daniel Brühl as Daniel Domscheit-Berg, as well as Laura Linney, Anthony Mackie, David Thewlis, Peter Capaldi, Dan Stevens, Alicia Vikander and Carice van Houten.

“The Fifth Estate” will open in U.S. theaters on November 15, 2013 and be distributed domestically by Disney’s Touchstone label. Distribution internationally will be split among Disney, DreamWorks partner Reliance, and deals made through the studio’s partnership with Mister Smith Entertainment.

Following Daniel Domscheit-Berg (Brühl), an early supporter and eventual colleague of Julian Assange (Cumberbatch), “The Fifth Estate” traces the heady, early days of WikiLeaks, culminating in the release of a series of controversial and history changing information leaks. The website’s overnight success brought instant fame to its principal architects and transformed the flow of information to news media and the world at large.

Joining DreamWorks as a co-financier on “The Fifth Estate” is Participant Media. This will be the fifth collaboration between the two companies who previously partnered on Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln,” the 2011 Academy Award-winning smash “The Help,” “The Kite Runner” and “The Soloist.” With a focus on real issues that shape our lives, Participant creates social action and advocacy programs to transform the impact of the media experience into individual and community action. Some of their other films include “An Inconvenient Truth,” “Good Night, and Good Luck,” “Food, Inc.,” “Charlie Wilson’s War,” “Waiting for ‘’Superman,’” “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” and the current Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Language Film, “No.”

Bill Condon (“Kinsey,” “Dreamgirls,” “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn”) will direct “The Fifth Estate” from a screenplay by Josh Singer (TV’s “Fringe,” “The West Wing”), based on “Inside WikiLeaks: My Time with Julian Assange at the World’s Most Dangerous Website” by Daniel Domscheit-Berg and “WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange’s War on Secrecy” by David Leigh and Luke Harding. The producers are Steve Golin and Michael Sugar, with Participant’s Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King joining Richard Sharkey as executive producers. “The Fifth Estate” is a coproduction between Afterworks and FBO, with Hilde De Laere co-producing for FBO. The film is supported by the Belgian Tax Shelter for Audiovisual Production.

Said director Bill Condon, “It may be decades before we understand the full impact of WikiLeaks and how it’s revolutionized the spread of information. So this film won’t claim any long view authority on its subject, or attempt any final judgment. Warner Bros. Pictures' highly-anticipated Superman movie, Man of Steel, has been rated by the MPAA. The film has received a PG-13 rating "for intense sequences of sci-fi violence, action and destruction, and for some language." Sounds good, right?

Fortsetzungswahn geht weiter

 

Nothing’s going to come close to the news of J.J. Abrams directing Star Wars: Episode VII today, but a sequel of a different sort is also moving closer to production.  Deadline reports that The Weinstein Company is planning on a May production start date on the sequel to Ang Lee’s Oscar-winning 2000 film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.  The follow-up is based on author Wang Du Lu’s Silver Vase, Iron Knight, which is the fourth book in the Crane-Iron Pentalogy.  The pic has a script by John Fusco (Hidalgo, Young Guns) and Ronny Yu (Freddy vs. Jason, Bride of Chucky) is in talks to direct.

The story again centers on the character of Yu Shu Lien, played by Michelle Yeoh in the first film.  Casting will begin once the director is officially signed, but some actors are expected to reprise their roles and Fusco imagines choreographer Wo Ping Yuen to come back.

The Untitled show is said to be set in a far-flung future where every human cop is paired with an android partner. Raise your hand if you're hoping for a Blade Runner-esque feel to the show! The project is currently set up at Fox which will need something to replace the recently-wrapped Fringe. You have to wonder how much time Abrams will be able to devote to the project seeing as how he just signed on to direct one of the biggest movie franchises of all-time. J.H. Wyman (Fringe), Bryan Burk (Revolution, Alcatraz) and Abrams will serve as executive producers. More details as the story develops.

Seit 2007 ist das Projekt Robotech nun schon in der Entwicklungsphase, doch jetzt wurde mit Nic Mathieu der Regisseur verpflichtet. Das kann nur bedeuten, dass der Film einen großen Schritt weiter ist. Robotech basiert auf einer US-Animeserie von 1985, die drei verschiedene japanische Animes in sich vereinte. Teile aus The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross und Genesis Climber MOSPEADAwurden dafür adaptiert. Der Robotech-Serie, die insgesamt 85 Folgen umfasste, folgten zahlreiche Spin-offs und Sequels.

Die Serie ist ein Science-Fiction Epos, das Menschen im Krieg mit einer außerirdischen Macht zeigt. Aus der Sicht der Menschen erzählt, folgt der Zuschauer ihnen als um die Jahrtausendwende ein mysteriöses Raumschiff auf der Erde notlandet. Die Geheimnisse der Alientechnologie werden erforscht und es entwickelt sich die sogenannte Robotechnology (daher auch der Name der Serie) und die Menschen können ein Arsenal von Robotern bauen, das die Erde gegen drei außerirdische Invasionen beschützt.

Wie genau die Realfilmversion aussehen soll, ist noch nicht bekannt. Lawrence Kasdan (Das Imperium schlägt zurück) und Ich bin Nummer Vier -Duo Alfred Gough und Miles Millar schreiben bereits am Drehbuch. Regisseur Nic Mathieu stammt eigentlich aus der Werbebranche und dreht mit Robotech seinen ersten Spielfilm. Als Produzent fungiert Tobey Maguire.

Große Roboter, die nichtmenschliche oder gar außerirdische Bösewichte abwehren, sind für uns Kinogänger nichts neues mehr. Am 18. Juli kommt mit Pacific Rim ein Film ähnlicher Art ins Kino. Und Michael Bay lässt auch nicht lange auf sich warten. 2014 bekommen wir mit Transformers 4 den vierten Teil aus dem Transformers-Universum geboten, allerdings ohneShia LaBeouf. Wann Robotech es auf die Leinwand schafft, ist noch nicht bekannt.

Trotz Star Wars bleibt J.J- Abrams wohl Mission Impossible und Star Trek treu... wenigstens als Produzent..

 

A question that has stunted many philosophers and scholars throughout the ages—who will directStar Wars 7?—was finally answered earlier this week with the news that J.J. Abrams will be taking the helm of the new Star Wars film.  The revelation was met with an even amount of joy, outrage, and confusion by the fan community, as one man will now be crossing the streams of Star Wars and Star Trek.

With anticipation for Abrams’ sequel Star Trek Into Darkness at a fever pitch (and the film poised to do big, big box office), Paramount is likely eager to get a third Star Trek film into production sooner rather than later.  The studio’s vice chairman has now spoken up to ease fans’ concern over Abrams’ other franchises, clarifying the filmmaker’s role in Star Trek 3 and Mission: Impossible 5 going forward.  Hit the jump to see what he had to say.

Speaking with Hero Complex, Paramount Vice Chariman Rob Moore seems confident that Abrams will still be heavily involved with the studio’s other franchises:

“J.J. will continue to develop projects for us including a new

Mission: Impossible

, and he is committed to produce another 

Star Trek

.”

 

Moore notes that Abrams will be involved with the inevitable Trek 3 “at the minimum as a producer, if not also directing the film,” though with Star Wars: Episode VII set to hit theaters in 2015, I have a hard time believing Paramount will want to wait that long before Abrams can be fully committed to developing another Trek sequel to direct.  I imagine his involvement with Trek 3 will likely mirror his role on Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol: help steer the broader strokes of the film’s story and handpick the director.  That said, Abrams did wait four years in between the first Trek and Into Darkness, so it’s also conceivable that he could return to helm Trek 3.

We should keep in mind, though, that Star Wars: Episode VII will be no easy task—especially with that targeted 2015 release date looming.  Abrams will likely have less time to devote to his other producorial efforts, so don’t expect him to have a heavy hand in anything other than Star Wars for the next two years.  In the meantime, though, we have the director’s highly anticipated next movie to look forward to in a couple of months, as Star Trek Into Darkness opens in 3D on May 17th.

Ich denk mal Star Trek wird er seinem Protegée Matt Reeves geben, bei dem sollte das gut aufgehoben sein. Aber ist auf jeden Fall gut zu wissen, dass Abrams in den Dingen weiter mit Drinsteckt.

Entourage kommt ins Kino....

 

 

 

Seit ein paar Monaten schon steht fest, dass für die HBO-Serie Entourage ein eigener Spielfilm entsteht (wir berichteten). Im September stand Serienerfinder Doug Ellin kurz davor, das Drehbuch fertigzustellen. Gestern gab dann Warner Bros. das OK für den Film, was die Fans sehr freuen dürfte.

Von 2004 bis 2011 lief die Serie im amerikanischen Pay-TV und folgte dem Leben von Vincent (Adrian Grenier), der als Hollywoodschauspieler auf der Karriereleiter nach oben steigt und dabei seine Vertrauten aus Kindertagen immer mit dabei hat. Gemeinsam mit seinen Freunden E ( Kevin Connolly), Turtle (Jerry Ferrara), Bruder Drama (Kevin Dillon) und Agent Ari (Jeremy Piven) basteln sie an Vincents Karriere und genießen das luxuriöse Leben Hollywoods. Achtung Spoiler Das eher versöhnliche Ende ließ Ari seinen Job hinschmeißen, um mit seiner Jahre lang vernachlässigten Frau glücklich zu werden und Vincent ließ sein Lotterleben, aber nicht seine Freunde, zurück, um zu heiraten. Spoiler Ende Die Handlung des Films wird etwa sechs Monate nach Ende der Serie einsetzen und die Protagonisten wahrscheinlich vor neue Probleme stellen.

Regie führen wird ebenfalls Doug Ellin, der auch ausführender Produzent der Serie war. Ihre Rollen als ausführende Produzenten werden Mark Wahlberg und Stephen Levinson wieder einnehmen. Die Stammbesetzung um Vincent, seiner Entourage und Agent Ari ist gerade dabei, die Verträge auszuhandeln. Wir können davon ausgehen, dass auch zahlreiche Nebencharaktere wiederkehren und diverse Hollywoodstars, wie in der Serie schon, in kurzen Auftritten sich selbst spielen werden. Der Drehbeginn zu Entourage Movie wurde noch nicht festgelegt.

Moon and Source Code helmer Duncan Jones will direct theWarcraft movie for Legendary Pictures (upcoming Man of Steel &Pacific Rim), according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sam Raimi was previously attached to direct the adaptation of the Blizzard Entertainment video game property.

The "Warcraft" universe is a rich fantasy setting that revolves around the epic conflict between the opposing forces of the Horde and the Alliance. Since its debut in 1994, "Warcraft" has developed a loyal following across the globe, with several bestselling, award-winning PC games and a range of popular licensed products including novels, action figures, apparel, comic books, board games, and more. "World of Warcraft," Blizzard Entertainment's subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game set in the Warcraft universe, is the most popular game of its kind in the world.

Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing for Legendary along with Blizzard and Atlas Entertainment's Charles Roven and Alex Gartner. Charles Leavitt wrote the script.

Legendary is eyeing a fall 2013 start for a 2015 release.
