Brett Ratner has plans to turn the popular online game "FarmVille" into an animated series, Deadline reports. The game, launched in 2009 by Zynga, is officially described as follows:

FarmVille lets players cultivate their farms by plowing, planting and harvesting crops and trees. Players also care for their farm animals: milking their cows and collecting eggs from their chickens.

FarmVille was the top game by daily active users on Facebook between August 2009 and December 2010, when CityVille claimed the top spot. We continue to enhance the social aspects of the game, including in-game gifting to friends, cooperative crafting jobs and trading goods in the farmer’s market.

Ratner said that “FarmVille is one of the most exciting brands out there today and its cross-platform opportunities are endless. I am thrilled to be expanding the brand with existing fans and also engaging a whole new audience."

The filmmaker, best known for movies like X-Men: The Last Stand and the Rush Hour franchise, will next direct Dwayne Johnson in Hercules, set for release on August 8, 2014.

There is not a network attached to air "FarmVille," but Ratner will executive producer alongside Charles Bishop, Nina Gelb and Kirk Schenck.

Said to be on the way for some time, Twentieth Century Fox's family sequel Night at the Museum 3 has been scheduled to hit theaters on December 25, 2014. Shawn Levy will return to the franchise as director with Ben Stiller reprising his role as museum security guard Larry Daley.

The first Night at the Museum was released in 2006 and followed Stiller's Daley as he discovered that, at night, the exhibits at New York's Museum of Natural History come to life. The 2009 sequel Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian then brought the action to Washington, DC. There's no word yet on where the third adventure might be set, but don't be surprised to see other familiar faces returning beyond Stiller.

Levy last directed Real Steel and will release his latest comedy The Internship on June 7.

In addition to scheduling Night at the Museum 3 for December, Fox has announced that their upcoming drama The Maze Runner will hit theaters on February 14, 2014.

In January, the rumor coming from Paramount was that the Tom Cruise action filmJack Reacher, which at the time had grossed about $73 million domestic and was about to open in Asia, had to gross $250 million worldwide to generate interest in a sequel. It seems that number may have dropped when executives looked at A) a bookshelf full of potential pre-written sequels by author Lee Child and B) solid international box office receipts.

Jack Reacher, directed by Christopher McQuarrie, just crossed $200 million worldwide. While that’s not $250 million, it seems Paramount has begun to move forward with a possible sequel.

Deadline (via Collider) made mention of this in an article about Reacher being Tom Cruise’s 19th $200 million movie. Nineteen. That’s insane. That number has the studio “already figuring out the sequel.”

But what would the sequel be? This first film was originally called One Shot, based on the 2005 book. However, in the Lee Child Reacher world, that’s in the middle of the story, number 9 out of 17.

  • Killing Floor (1997)
  • Die Trying (1998)
  • Tripwire (1999)
  • Running Blind: US title/The Visitor: UK title (2000)
  • Echo Burning (2001)
  • Without Fail (2002)
  • Persuader (2003)
  • The Enemy (2004) (Prequel set eight years before Killing Floor)
  • One Shot (2005)
  • The Hard Way (2006)
  • Bad Luck and Trouble (2007)
  • Nothing to Lose (2008)
  • Gone Tomorrow (2009)
  • 61 Hours (Spring 2010)
  • Worth Dying For (Fall 2010)
  • The Affair (2011) (This is another prequel set just before Killing Floor.)
  • A Wanted Man (2012)

You’d imagine the story would continue from there with The Hard Way. But, then again, maybe a better story was written before One Shot that could easily be moved later in the timeline. Continuity is not likely a concern. What is a concern are 16 more movies that don’t happen if you stop making Jack Reacher movies. The potential is just too great to not make a sequel to a $200 million hit.

Then there’s Mission: Impossible 5, the film Cruise and McQuarrie will likely make before another Reacher movie, simply because it’s a guaranteed hit. There’s no timeline on that at the moment so one would think, even if a Reacher sequel is in the works, we wouldn’t see it for several years.

From Russ: Some of those novels have significantly less chance of being movie fodder. The Enemy and The Affair are prequels dating back to Reacher’s days in the military, so they’re probably not going to power sequels. A couple of the novels, Without Fail and Bad Luck and Trouble feature semi-regular Reacher sidekick Francis Neagley, and could be good basis for adding another regular character to the new series. (Neagley also features in The Affair.) And some of these books were once optioned by other producers, and we don’t know exactly which ones are available at this point. If I had to choose, I might go for the First Blood-like Die Trying, or Persuader, which features a good cast of characters for a film.

De Niro und Stallone in einer Boxerkomödie...

Two of the greatest cinematic boxers of all time are getting ready to go one-on-one in a new movie, as Warner Bros. has officially given the greenlight to Grudge Match, an upcoming pugilist picture starring Robert De Niro (a.k.a. Jake La Motta from Raging Bull) and Sylvester Stallone (a.k.a. Rocky Balboa from Rocky).

Details about the project first arrived in June when it was also announced that Get Smart and Anger Management director Peter Segal had signed on to helm, and now Deadline has gotten news that not only is the film a go, but that it has added a new name to the cast. Kevin Hart, who has had a big year in 2012 so far with roles in movies like The Five-Year Engagement and Think Like A Man, has signed on to play "the fight promoter who gets two retired brawlers back in the ring." Entourage creator Doug Ellin is currently working on the most recent draft of the script. At this time we don't know much about the script other than the fact that both De Niro and Stallone will be playing retired fighters who decide to have one final bought.

As Deadline points out, it will be interesting to see how this plays out on the physical side, as Stallone has kept up with action hero exercise regimen through the years, while De Niro has been showing more of his age in recent years. Then again, De Niro did famously gain 70 pounds when he was doing scenes for the end of Raging Bull, so many he still has it in him to do the reverse and get in scary shape for Grudge Match.

Eddie Murphy macht wohl beim "Twins"-Sequel mit..

Entitled Triplets, the new film would see Schwarzenegger and DeVito reunited, with Murphy as a (presumably long-lost) third brother.

The original Twins was a well-received comedy directed by Ivan Reitman, in which Schwarzenegger and DeVito play the results of a genetics experiment that produces radically dissimilar twin brothers who grow up in entirely different enviroments. It was made at the height of Schwarzenegger's action-movie stardom, and showcased a hitherto little-suspected comedic side to his persona. It was a sizeable hit, taking $111m in the US and a further $104m worldwide.

There is no word yet as to who might direct the project, but Reitman is unlikely to take the helm again, according to the Hollywood Reporter, preferring at this stage to stay in the background as a producer.

Und Gary Oldman macht bei Dawn of the Apes mit:

Things are really ramping up for Matt Reeves' upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. In addition to the returning Andy Serkis, recent reports name Jason Clarke and Kodi Smit-McPhee as two of the sequel's principal cast. Now, ComingSoon.net has learned exclusively that Gary Oldman will be boarding the project as the leader of a human colony!

Set 15 years after the events of Rise of the Planet of the ApesDawn finds most of humanity wiped out and the intelligent apes ruling over the world. Part of the film's focus is said to be on a small group of San Francisco-based scientists that are forming a resistance against the apes and part follows Serkis' Caesar as he, like his namesake, tries to maintain order and power within his new civilization.

A name very well known to cinephiles, Oldman recently starred in John Hillcoat's Lawless and reprised his role as Commissioner Gordon in last summer's The Dark Knight Rises. He can be seen later this year in Robert Luketic's Paranoia and early next year in Jose Padilha's RoboCop.

Featuring a screenplay by Mark Bomback, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes starts filming this spring for a May 23, 2014 release. Peter Chernin, Dylan Clarke, Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa are producing.

Sam Raimi will Evil Dead 4 machen....

Evil Dead 4.  With an Evil Dead remake on the way, you would think that any chance of a fourth chapter in the series would be slim.

Well, at an event in London surrounding Sam Raimi's Oz the Great and Powerful (which is pretty darn good), Raimi himself slipped out some news that will please fans.

Bleeding Cool reports that Raimi told the audience the following...

"I would love to make Evil Dead 4. My brother and I plan to work on the script this summer."

Raimi told us last fall that he was going to return to the horror genre and was at work on writing something.  Maybe this is what he was hinting at?

Now, you might think he was saying this in jest, but I don't think so.  Raimi understands the fanbase the series has and he's very aware that there is a desire to see a fourth part.  So, I don't think he's being a tease.

Sam Raimi will Evil Dead 4 machen....

Spielberg will Kubricks Napoleon als Miniserie herausbringen

It appears that Steven Spielberg has officially taken it upon himself to finish Stanley Kubrick’s life’s work.  The Lincoln director is developing another one of Kubrick’s projects, this time for the small screen.  Napoleon is perhaps the most famous of the 2001: A Space Odyssey helmer’s unrealized films, with Kubrick having conducted massive amounts of research for the biopic on the French Emperor, only to see the project canceled due to the hefty cost of location filming.  Hit the jump for more on what Spielberg had to say about Napoleon.

Kubrick passed away in 1999, leaving a number of projects unfinished.  Shortly after the famed director’s death, Spielberg took it upon himself to complete work on A.I. Artificial Intelligence, a film that Kubrick had been working on since the early ’70s.  The director consulted with Spielberg before his passing, handing the film off to the Jurassic Park helmer in 1995.  But it was Kubrick’s death that ultimately prompted Spielberg to make the film.  Now, Spielberg is working on adapting Kubrick’s Napoleon into a television miniseries: “I’ve been developing Stanley Kubrick’s screenplay — for a miniseries not for a motion picture — about the life of Napoleon,” Spielberg told the French network Canal+ (via The Playlist).  “Kubrick wrote the script in 1961, a long time ago.”

As I mentioned above, Kubrick left behind an enormous amounts of notes, including an entire card catalog of the French Emperor’s movements and deeds throughout the years.  There’s even a screenplay, which has since been made available online.  I’m sure Spielberg will make the project his own, but it’s nice to know that he has plenty of guidance from the legendary director.  I just hope this doesn’t mean that we never see Robocalypse.
