Ich denke, da trägt das Studio (wie bei JOHN CARTER) viel Verantwortung: Wer nicht (richtig) wirbt, stirbt, wer größtmögliche Summen auch unnötigerweise in ein Projekt versenkt, dessen geschäftliche Tragfähigkeit bestenfalls unklar ist - der ist selber schuld.

Eine neue Dracula-Verfilmung hat mit Luke Evans ihren Hauptdarsteller



 

 

 

Univeral’s Dracula, formerly Dracula Year Zero, the studio’s monstrous origin story of the most famous of all vampires, has landed Luke Evans (The Raven) in the lead role.  In his first starring studio role, Evans will play a young prince who makes the ultimate sacrifice to save his wife and child in this historically oriented take on the origin of the infamous vamp.  Debut feature director Gary Shore, who earned his experience in the world of commercials, plans to start production on the film later this year.  The film’s producer Mike De Luca previously spoke with Steve a few years ago when the studio had pulled the plug on the picture due to budget issues.  Hit the jump for more on Evans’ role and to see what De Luca revealed about Dracula Year Zero. 

 

First up, Heat Vision reports that Evans will indeed take the starring role of Dracula Year Zero.  Rather than introduce us to the blood-sucking count in the middle of his murderous ways, the film will take us back to Dracula as a young mortal prince.  When his family is threatened by a bloodthirsty sultan, he sacrifices his soul in order to save them and thus becomes the world’s first vampire.  It’s a far more heroic and complex turn than Universal’s iconic Dracula of the 1931 picture starring Bela Lugosi.

 

De Luca spoke much more extensively about the plot of the picture:

 

I think we talked about the whole Dracula thing where you mentioned that it’s a really big movie.  Could you sort of tell people like….I mean what’s a little bit more. Have things changed in the last year or two on it?

 

De Luca: No, these writers came up with the ingenious-what I think is ingenious-approach combining historical Dracula with Bram Stoker’s Dracula. So it chronicles the efforts of a young prince, Vlad of Transylvania trying to keep the Ottoman empire and the Turks of the time from using his small country as a stepping stone to invade Europe. So there’s a historical basis for all of that history that’s in the script, but when his back is up against the wall and he can’t figure out how to keep the Turkish army out of his country and keep their hands off his country’s children, which they want to kidnap and press into their army as something they used to call the Janissary corps, I guess the Romans did a version of it also, but this taking of male children from host countries and pressing them into military service for the invading army is another thing he’s trying to prevent. Because his own son is being threatened with that kidnapping. And in the script that we have, he was actually a victim of it himself. He earned the reputation of being the Impaler while he was serving the Turks.

 

One Turk in particular, which is the antagonist in the movie, so in a moment of desperation he looks at this mountain top in Transylvania that all the gypsies in his country say is haunted and full of bad black magic. And he’s never believed in any of that supernatural kind of what he thinks is hogwash. But in a moment of desperation he ascends that mountain to see if there’s any truth to any kind of power that he could use to keep the invading army out. And he finds something that gets him to where we have come to know him as Dracula and uses that power source to kind of fight the Turks after he’s changed.

Neues zu Fast 7 und was Universal noch so alles in Planung hat:

Yesterday was Paramount’s turn to show off its upcoming slate of films at the Las Vegas CinemaCon, while today brings Universal and Warner Bros. The Universal gang were first up, and announced a release date for Fast & Furious 7 plus sequels for Pitch Perfect, Snow White And The Huntsman and, more nebulously, the Bourne movie universe.

Given its franchise success, the Fast & Furious series was, somewhat naturally, the focus up front, with Vin Diesel and some of his co-stars on stage to announce that the next film, for now simply called Fast & Furious 7, is set for July 11, 2014. As was previously announced, James Wan is taking over the director’s driving seat for the seventh movie, which Diesel described as “probably the biggest one of all.” With what we’ve seen so far from Fast 6 (check out the latest trailer below), that’s a claim we’re intrigued to see paid off.

Also part of the presentation was footage from Kick-Ass 2, R.I.P.D. and Mark Wahlberg/Denzel Washington action thriller 2 Guns, along with a well-received 20 minutes of Despicable Me 2.

As for the future sequels, Pitch Perfect 2 is definitely in active development, with writer Kay Cannon back to craft the script and a 2015 release date currently pencilled in.

2015 will be a busy year for Snow White And The Huntsman also, as Universal boss Adam Fogelson revealed that a sequel is on the way, though no details were revealed. The Bourne film is even more of a mystery – despite Fogelson saying the studio is actively working on another, there’s no telling yet whether that means another outing for Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne or (much more likely) a return for Jeremy Renner’s Aaron Cross.

Hatte gehofft die erholen sich irgendwann wieder aber sie gehen seit "Oben" nur noch auf Nummer Sicher.

Wobei "Oben" geklaut war und nach der ersten Viertelstunde stark nachließ. "Findet Nemo" fand ich allerdings schon damals nicht so prall.

 

Naja, bleibt uns noch Dreamworks mit "Madagascar 4" oder so...

Erstmal bekommen wir aller Voraussicht dafür wieder einen Score von Thomas Newman (der erste von Tommy war und ist Gold wert) und wenn der zweite Teil nur halb so gut wird wie der erste, bin ich ganz zufrieden. Außerdem ist mit Dory nun auch mein Lieblingscharakter aus dem ersten Teil im Mittelpunkt. 

Dazu muss man aber auch sagen, die haben hier nicht einfach ne schnell produzierte Fortsetzung gemacht, sondern jahrelang daran gewerkelt. Da sehe ich schon den Anspruch, dass sie es richtig machen wollen. Ich bin gespannt und freue mich auf weitere Minuten mit Dory

Aber "Finding Nemo" ist mittlerweile auch schon zehn Jahre alt und war damals ein riesiger Erfolg, der fast schon nach einer Fortsetzung verlangt hat. Diese Zeitspanne von diesen 10 Jahren lässt mich hoffen, dass sie nicht einfach eine billige Fortsetzung machen wollten.

Naja, kommt drauf an, wann der Entschluss gefasst wurde, dieses Sequel anzugehen. Hätte man einfach den Erfolg ausnutzen wollen, hätten man damals sofort ans Werk gehen können (s. "Toy Story"). Fakt ist: Seit Pixar komplett zu Disney gehört und John Lassiter das kreative Gebiet verlassen hat und ins Management aufgestiegen, kommen immer weniger originelle Ideen. Ich hoffe allerdings noch immer darauf, dass mein absoluter Pixar-Lieblingsfilm "Monster AG" wirklich eine würdige "Vorsetzung" bekommt und nicht schlicht eine CGI-Uni-Klamotte mit Furzwitzen.

Mir ist die Qualität jeder Pixar-Fortsetzung egal. Ich mag keine Fortsetzungen von einer Firma, die ewig lange verlässlich grandiose Animationsfilme auf höchstem technischen wie erzählerischen Niveau produziert hat.

Letzteres hoff ich auch.. aber das erste Erfreuliche ist ja bei dem, dass Billy Crystal und John Goodman wieder mit am Bord sind. Nur mir wird "Buh" sehr fehlen, die ja nicht dabei ist. Aber bin auch sehr gespannt auf die "Monster-Uni".

Trailer sah jedenfalls ganz gut aus, aber es fehlte eben das "Spezielle". Uni-Klamotten gibt es immerhin schon seit Jahrzehnten.
