Borgias kommen zu einem Ende..

 

 

Showtime’s rich, complicated Renaissance drama The Borgias will be coming to an end earlier than expected.  The third season finale on June 16th will also serve as a series finale, as Showtime has also scrapped plans for a two-hour wrap-up movie.  Though The Borgias held steady in the ratings this year, its production costs were deemed too high to continue.  Additionally, creator Neil Jordan wasn’t sure he had enough material in mind for a full fourth season, but had still hoped to be able to wrap things up for Pope Alexander (Jeremy Irons), Cesare (François Arnaud) and Lucrezia  (Holliday Grainger) with a film.

 

The series’ complexity and intense drama has kept it on critics’ radars throughout its run (and included a Golden Globe nomination for Irons and 10 Emmys for the series so far), but unfortunately it never gained the exposure or interest of a period drama series like HBO’s Game of Thrones (and admittedly was never as engaging, though still made for great TV).  Hit the jump for more on what Jordan had to say about the finale, and the way he had hoped to end the series in a movie.

 

According to Deadline, at a point during the filming of the third season, Jeremy Irons turned to Jordan and said “this feels like the end of something, that the family has come to an end.”  The Borgia family went through a lot to end the second season and throughout the third, including Cesare’s murder of his brother Juan (David Oakes) as well as Cesare and Lucrezia consummating their incestuous love for one another (something viewers have been expecting since the series began).  Jordan said of the decision to the end the series early, “I would have loved to bring all the characters to a conclusion. All of the actors were heartbroken we couldn’t continue, and so was I.”

 

Showtime Entertainment president David Nevins said,

 

“Ultimately the show was designed as a regular series, and I was reluctant to do an extra two-hour disconnected from the whole that could be potentially anti-climactic.  Now we have a nice upward build towards the finale. We have a nice ending, a good climax, and I didn’t want to muck it up with an afterthought.”

 

He went on to praise Jordan, saying, “This is what premium television can do — take stories that can’t be contained in two-hour movie and blow them up to make an amazing series. The Borgias is Auteur Television at its best.”

 

 

 

As for Jordan’s vision of the true finale of the series,

 

>“I wanted a totally biblical ending, for the Pope to burn in hell. That is how he wrote the proposed two-hour finale, with the Pope dying and no one willing to hear his confession. When they finally find a confessor and the Pope starts to repent his sins, the confessor interrupts him, saying, ‘I’m sorry, it’s too late, you’re already dead and burning in hell.’ This satisfies all moral feelings about the Pope.”

 

 

While the third season lacked a certain spark that held together the first two seasons — maybe it was the lack of Juan, or the breaking of the tension between Cesare and Lucrezia, or the fact that the Pope was finally starting to pay for his sins — but it seems like things will be ending for the Borgia family now on a high note, especially for the siblings, which ultimately is good news.  Whether fans end up thinking it’s satisfactory remains to be seen.

Bruckheimer sounds more prudent about the Lone Ranger, the expensive Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer western that rides into theaters July 3. Clearly, it’s designed as a franchise — but then again, so was The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. “Hopefully The Lone Ranger will continue as a sequel,” Bruckheimer said. “It’s always up to the audience. If the audience likes the movie, then Disney will come to me and we’ll make another, or it will be a one-off.”

seine letzten kinoproduktionen waren aber auch keine wirklichen kassenschlager. kein wunder, dass er da jetzt etwas zurückhaltender ist. das publikum ist unberechenbar.

Hier ein Paar News:

 

Little is known about the upcoming Terminator 5 except that the film is happening. Now, a report form the WWE Examiner (via AICN) has some very possibly juicy details on the cast and its setting. They say that actor Dwayne Johnson is being courted to join the film but hasn't officially signed on. Production for the film is targeting a January start date, and with Johnson currently filming Hercules in Hungary, his schedule could line up properly to appear in the film.
The next chunk they have on the film is on the setting for the story. According to Examiner sources, the setting for Terminator 5 will be set before the birth of Sarah Connor and focus on her parents in the 1940s and 50s. This scenario would once again involve a Terminator(s) being sent back in time to kill a target, only this time it's decades before the attempts on Sarah and John Connor. None of this is confirmed at this time, but check back here for more information on the film in the future.
Writers Patrick Lussier and Laeta Kalogridis are teaming up to write the script for the next installment. Lussier directed Drive Angry and My Bloody Valentine 3D while Kalogridis penned Shutter Island and did some script work on James Cameron's Avatar.

Anne Hathaway is, according to a story at The Hollywood Reporter, making plans to both star in and produce Working Title and Focus Features' upcoming big screen adaptation of Charlotte Rogan's recent novel The Lifeboat. Published in 2012Hathaway recently won an Academy Award for her performanced in Les Miserables. She can be seen coming up in Don Jon, starring alongside her The Dark Knight Rises co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who also makes his big screen directorial debut with the project

Helena Bonham Carter has been cast as the fairy godmother in Disney’s upcoming live-action feature Cinderella, directed by Sir Kenneth Branagh.
She joins the previously announced cast of Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother, Lily James in the title role and Richard Madden as the prince.
Aline Brosh McKenna (27 Dresses, The Devil Wears Prada) and Chris Weitz wrote the film. While most people know the story from Disney's 1950 animated classic, there are variations going back as far as the 1st century BC.
Plans call to shoot Cinderella this fall in London with David Barron, Simon Kinberg and Allison Shearmur producing.

First up, the studio has dated Independence Day 2 for July 3, 2015. Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin will again be bringing the aliens to theaters then.
Also coming that month is Peregrine's Home for Peculiars on July 31, 2015. The film is an adaptation of Ransom Riggs' children's novel.
The studio has also moved back their video game adaptation Assassin's Creed, starring Michael Fassbender, from May 22, 2015 to June 19, 2015.
Moving forward to next year, 20th Century Fox has swapped the dates for X-Men: Days of Future Past and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. X-Men: Days of Future Past will now hit theaters two months earlier on May 23, 2014 and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is coming two months later on July 18, 2014.

Da ich gerade die Sarah Connor Chronicles schaue, bin ich wieder ziemlich drin im Terminator-Franchise und wäre auch einem fünften Teil nicht abgeneigt. Allerdings klingt die o.g. Idee mehr als nur hanebüchen. Diese Zeitreise-Rückschickerei wird damit eher lächerlich. Skynet hat´s in den 80ern versucht, in den 90ern, in den Nullern, nun geht´s zurück in die 50er? Warum nicht einfach zurück ins Mittelalter, und den ganzen Connor-Klan (nein, nicht den - den anderen ) mit Stil und Stumpf ausmerzen? Zeitreise-Geschichten kann man nicht endlos fortsetzen...

Was ich mir da gut vorstellen könnte.. eine Zeitraffergeschichte.. also nichts mit Zeitreisen.. nee die Geschichte von Anfang an.. spannend und eher actionlos aufbereitet.. erst gegen Mitte des Films den Sprung in die Zukunft.. oder die beiden Zeitebenen gleichzeitig, womit man dann auch die Action reinbringen kann.. und mit dem Clou, dass in der Vergangenheit eine Sache gemacht wird, die dann in der Zukunft erst nen Sinn macht.. oder so..

Nur eine Idee von mir, die vielleicht total blöd klingt und absolut nicht machbar.. hätte daran irgendwie meinen Reiz.. oder ich sag nu zu mir.. vergiss das schnell.. werd endlich wach und trink mehr Kaffee

Arnold und Johnson zusammen in einem Terminator-Film? Statt Johnson hätte ich mir in dem Fall eigentlich doch eher Vin Diesel gewünscht. Johnson wirkt selbst dann noch sympathisch, wenn er auf Arschloch macht. Diesel kann da den Bad Guy besser geben.

 

PS: Ich hab oben den Stil-Stiel-Fehler gemacht. Bitte ignorieren, geistige Umnachtung, zu viel Hitze, endlich Freitag, wasauchimmer...

In Fast Five hat er zumindest einen auf streng und knallhart gemacht. Ich wollte trotzdem die ganze Zeit ein Bier mit dem trinken gehen.

 

Der war schon so oft in selbstironischen Rollen zu sehen, dass ich dem was richtig Fieses nicht mehr abnehme (wäre aber sowieso die Frage, ob der dann einen Terminator oder einen Widerstandskämpfer gäbe).
