Neues Projekt von Spielberg

 

In Hollywood, plenty of scripts get purchased, and should they even make it to the big screen, the long and arduous process of getting them there is called “development hell”.  Montezuma has been living in hell for almost half a century.  Written by Dalton Trumbo in 1965 as a starring vehicle for Kirk Douglas (the two previously worked together on Spartacus) with Martin Ritt (Hud) intending to direct, the story focuses on the dark and twisted history between Spanish conquistador Hernando Cortez and Aztec leader Montezuma.  According to Deadline, the story is “an epic tale of the kinship and ultimately the bloody collision between Montezuma and Cortez as the latter led the Spanish infiltration into Mexico.”

Now, Montezuma may finally escape the bowels of damnation with the help of Steven Spielberg, Javier Bardem, and Steve Zaillian.  Hit the jump for more.

dalton-trumboThe involvement of three major talents like Spielberg, Bardem, and Zaillian would be a nice redemption for the project.  Trumbo was among the “Hollywood Ten”, a group of people in Hollywood who refused to testify in the communist witch hunt scared up by the House Committee on Un-American Activities.  Trumbo spent 11 months in jail for contempt of Congress, and likely would have been banished from Hollywood forever if not for Douglas hiring him for Spartacus in 1960.  Despite Trumbo having 17 film credits to his name afterwards as well as developing One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest for Douglas (they couldn’t get it made with the classic star, and eventually Jack Nicholson took the Oscar-winning role), Montezuma remained in stasis.

According to Deadline, it’s one of Hollywood’s great unmade scripts, and it caught Bardem’s attention since, despite the title, it’s actually from Cortez’ perspective, and he wants to play the role.  I haven’t read the script, so I don’t know how Cortez is depicted, but in history, he plundered Mexico in 1519, gave the populace smallpox, befriended and then imprisoned Montezuma, slaughtered the Aztec people, and then Montezuma was killed by his countrymen.  To add insult to injury, Cortez fathered a child for Montezuma’s daughter afterwards.  If Trumbo’s Montezuma (which could be re-titled to Cortez) stays even fairly close to reality, it’s a juicy role for any actor.
The story could also be enough to woo Spielberg, who’s currently looking for a project after tabling Robopocalypse and departing the adaptation of American Sniper.  However, Deadline notes, “This is all just coming together, maybe too soon for Spielberg to do next.
Zaillian is on board to produce, and Spielberg will probably be joining him in that capacity.  However, DreamWorks has the rights but Zaillian had a first-look deal with Fox, so there could be a team-up between the two studios.

No matter how this pans out, it’s definitely good material for a film, and I’m glad these three Oscar-winners are considering it

Mehr AKTE X News. FOX arbeitet anscheinend nicht nur an einer HD-Version der Serie, sondern die ersten vier Staffeln, die noch in 4:3 liefen, sollen in der HD-Version erstmals im 16:9-Format präsentiert werden, auch wenn das stark nach "falschem" 16:9 riecht (also einfach das 4:3 Bild aufblasen).

 

 

During the discussion, Burnett confirmed once again that Fox is not only remastering The X-Files in HD for eventual Blu-ray and syndication release, but that they’ve actually decided to go back to the original negative for the first few seasons (that originally aired in 4x3) to remaster them for 1.78:1/16x9 widescreen. Fox’s timeframe for announcing and releasing the series on Blu-ray is still TBD.

Meanwhile, we’ve been talking about this year’s upcoming anniversary releases of James Cameron’s The Abyss (25th) and True Lies (20th) on Blu-ray from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment for a while now.  Actor Tom Arnold has now confirmed that he and the rest of the cast shot interview material for a True Lies: 20th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray.  Watch for the official announcement of both titles over the coming weeks and months.

Einer der besten Serien derzeit für mich.. Doctor Who bekommt eine 9. Staffel und auch Sherlock bekommt eine 4. und 5. Staffel

 

Steven Moffat has indicated Series 9 will happenin 2015, and that it will be another Full Series, uninterupted run. Speaking in the latest edition of DWM:

“We’re not going to do splits, and the same format will repeat exactly the following year like that. So it will be the traditional form.”

Moffat also confirmed Series 4 and 5 of Sherlock, co producered by Mark Gatiss.

Der Naked Gun-Reboot ist nun ein Sequel

 

It was announced last month that Paramount Pictures had signed Ed Helms to lead a reboot of the comedy franchise The Naked Gun. Today, CraveOnline caught up with co-screenwriter Ben Garant (who writes alongside creative partner Thomas Lennon) and learned that the project isn't so much a remake as a sequel.

"Right now we're calling it 'Episode IV – A New Hope,'" Garant says. "That will change, but that's the working title... Our take is that Ed Helms is Frank Drebin, no relation. That's how he introduces himself."

Based on the earlier short-lived ABC TV series "Police Squad!"(which also starred Leslie Nielsen and was created by Jim Abrahams, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker), three films were released including The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988), The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear (1991) and The Naked Gun 33 /3: The Final Insult (1994).

Similar to what was done with John Singleton's Shaft, J.J. Abrams' Star Trek or even the surprisingly franchise continuity-faithful Herbie Fully Loaded (that Garant and Lennon also drafted), The Naked Gun will use the "no relation" joke to offer a rebooted protagonist without technically contradicting the events of any of the previous films. In fact, Garant suggests that his aim is to capture the style of the original films without repeating the specific storyline.

"We are trying to reinvent the world," he says, "because that world was very 'Dragnet,' but we're trying to fit in 100 jokes a page... It's going to be a lot of fun. We’re very much embracing the style."

No release date is currently set for The Naked Gun, but check back for updates as soon as they become available.

Das ZDF wird die Geschichte von Anne Frank und ihrer Familie verfilmen.. laut wikipedia wird das nun schon die 6. Verfilmung werden

Die tragische Geschichte von Anne Frank und ihrer Familie wird nun von Oliver Berben als Zweiteiler für das ZDF produziert.

Bereits mit dem großen Erfolg "Das Adlon. Eine Familiensaga" bewies Produzent Oliver Berben und das ZDF, wie hochwertige TV-Unterhaltung aussehen kann. Nun setzen sie ihre erfolgreiche Zusammenarbeit fort und verfilmen die Lebensgeschichte der Familie Frank. Geplant ist die Verfilmung mit einem neuen Ansatz; modern erzählt. Martin Moszkowicz, Vorstandsvorsitzender der Constantin Film, wird das Projekt als Executive Producer betreuen. Die Ausstrahlung ist für 2015 im Zweiten Deutschen Fernsehen geplant.

Oha.

Wobei ich finde, dass die deutschen Mehrteiler in den letzten Jahren doch hier und da schon an Qualität zu früheren Produktionen gewonnen haben. Hier schauderts mich aber schon davor, irgendwann den Cast zu lesen. Lasse mich aber auch gerne überraschen.

"von Oliver Berben für das ZDF" klingt auf jeden Fall besser als "xx für RTL" .. Also alá Mega-Event-Movie mit *hüstel* "sehr moderner Musik"

 

Also bin zuversichtlich, dass da etwas feines dabei herauskommen könnte und habe auch ein wenig "Vorfreude" auf den Film.

Chris Pratt und Bryce Dallas Howard werden wohl in Jurassic World mitspielen, hat wenigstens Ron Howard verraten

 

Last night Ron Howard was tweeting live from The Golden Globes and tweeted this rather interesting picture of his daughter Bryce Dallas Howard with Chris Pratt.  We know his daughter will be in Jurassic World but we've only had rumours and speculation that Chris Pratt is in the 2015 movie.  Well this tweet seems to confirm this.  Check it out.

Die Berlinale-Jury steht fest. Erwartungsgemäss nicht so hochkarätig wie Cannes oder Venedig, aber auch nicht schlecht:

 

 

Unter dem Vorsitz von Produzent und Drehbuchautor James Schamus entscheidet die Internationale Jury über die Vergabe des Goldenen und der Silbernen Bären im Wettbewerb der Berlinale 2014.

 

Die weiteren Jury-Mitglieder sind Barbara Broccoli, Trine Dyrholm, Mitra Faharani, Greta Gerwig, Michel Gondry, Tony Leung und Christoph Waltz.

FX confirms 'Justified' will end next season'

FX Networks CEO John Landgraf made it official at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena on Tuesday. The executive portrayed the decision as one made by the showrunner Graham Yost and star Timothy Olyphant. “We talked about it a year ago and they felt that the arc of the show and what they had to say would be served by six seasons instead of seven and I regretfully accepted their decision,” he said.

This still means fans get nearly two more seasons of the show, since season five just started this month.

FX also announced that Michael Cera has been cast along with actor John Hawkes (Deadwood) in the comedy pilot How And Why, while Zach Galifianakis will star in another comedy pilot he’ll co-write with Louis C.K. (who begins a fourth season of Louie in May).

Ähhh... Tony Leung und Michel Gondry sind Top-Filmschaffende. Und Frau Gerwig eine sehr angesagt Up&comerin. Super-kreativ ist so eine Jury nicht. Aber immerhin etwas namhafter als in vergangenen Jahren (Berlinale-Chef Kosslick holt ja auch schonmal Modedesigner oder Köche in die Wettbewerbsjury)...

Mit Who is Who meinte ich Leute, die so gut wie bei jeder Schicht bekannt sind.. ich kenn ja Gondry und Leung, die wirklich Topleute sind.. gut ist es, das es wohl Leute sind, die ihr Handwerk verstehen und das ist auch schonmal viel wert in einer Jury.

Jaja, erst grosse Klappe und dann... Nachdem die MAN OF STEEL-Fortsetzung ja bereits vor der Premiere angekündigt bzw. angedroht wurde, braucht man jetzt wohl doch etwas mehr Zeit (und vor allem keine AVENGERS 2 & Co-Konkurrenz): Statt Mai 2015 startet der SUPERMAN/BATMAN-Film jetzt doch erst im Juli 2016.
