Was mir kürzlich aufgefallen ist: Wie wäre es denn mit einem neuen DARKMAN-Film? Immerhin liegt hier der seltene Fall vor, dass sowohl der Regisseur (Sam Raimi), als auch der Hauptdarsteller (Liam Neeson), 23 Jahre nach dem Original-Film dicker im Geschäft sind, als sie es damals 1990 waren. Und Neeson ist ja nun seit ein paar Jahren auch plötzlich als Actionheld ein Kassenmagnet. Nur so ein Gedanke...

Genau. Ein Remake ist zwar warscheinlicher, aber ich mag die Idee, mit dem Team von damals eine Fortsetzung zu drehen. Okay, es gab bereits DARKMAN II und DARKMAN III auf Video, aber die waren ohne Neeson und jetzt auch nicht mehr soo toll. Neben Raimi und Neeson wären auch Komponist Danny Elfman und Kameramann Bill Pope zwei, die seit damals in der Hollywood-Liga weit nach oben gekommen sind. DARKMAN RELOADED...

Wäre mir auch neu, dass Alec Baldwin und Russel Mulcahy heute dicker im Geschäft sind als 1994.

 

THE SHADOW war übrigens damals Ende der 80er das Traumprojekt von Sam Raimi. Er wollte den Film unbedingt machen, aber das Studio liess ihn nicht. Daher hat er mit DARKMAN einfach seinen eigenen dunklen Helden erschaffen.

Ja dank der Serie "30 Rock" ist er wieder in aller Munde.. und das absolut zu Recht.

Das erinnert mich.. ich muss mir mal wieder "The Cooler" anschauen.. nicht nur wegen ihm, auch wegen William H Macy und Maria Bello. Viel zu lange her, seit ich den das letzte Mal gesehen habe, dabei mag ich den Film ja richtig gerne.

David S. Goyer, best known for his recent DC contributions as a screenwriter for The Dark Knight Trilogy and the upcoming Man of Steel, is now set to direct a remake of The Count of Monte Cristo.  In fact, the film is being pitched as a “19th Century Dark Knight” with a “graphic novel” approach to the script by Michael Robert Johnson (Sherlock Holmes), so make of that what you will.  The latest adaptation of the classic revenge tale by Alexandre Dumas will be made at Constantin Films with Impact Pictures’ Jeremy Bolt (Resident Evil) producing.

Reports have Tom Cruise in early talks to star in The Man from U.N.C.L.E., the Warner Bros. feature adaptation of the 1960s series.  The show starred Robert Vaughan and David McCallumas Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin, agents of the United Network Command for Law Enforcement who used gadgets and wits to fight against the evil organization known as T.H.R.U.S.H.  Guy Ritchie (Snatch) will direct from a Scott Z. Burns (The Bourne Ultimatum) script.

Anlässlich seines 75. Geburtstages schlüpft Götz George nochmal in seine Paraderolle als Horst Schimanski. Einen entsprechenden "Bild"-Bericht hat der WDR inzwischen bestätigt. Zu sehen sein soll der Film noch in diesem Jahr.

 

Am 23. Juli feiert Götz George bereits seinen 75. Geburtstag - und steht nun auch in seinem hohen Alter nochmal in seiner Paraderolle als Horst Schimanski vor der Kamera. Der WDR hat einen "Bild"-Bericht bestätigt, demzufolge im Mai die Dreharbeiten für einen neuen "Schimanski"-Film mit dem Arbeitstitel "Loverboy" beginnen werden. Schimanski komme darin einem alten Freund zu Hilfe. Es gehe um "Liebe und Verrat" und natürlich einen Mord.

 

Es handelt sich bereits um den 17. Film der "Schimanski"-Reihe, die 1997, sechs Jahre nach seinem Ausscheiden als "Tatort"-Kommissar, gestartet worden war. Der bislang letzte Film war im Januar 2011 zu sehen. Damals hatten über neun Millionen Zuschauer eingeschaltet. Der nächste Film soll nach Möglichkeit noch in diesem Jahr zu sehen sein, so der WDR. Die "Bild" hatte von einem Ausstrahlungstermin Anfang 2014 berichtet.

Bond 24 gibts spätestens 2016:

“We are currently developing the screenplay and working with our partners,” revealed MGM CEO Gary Barber. “We look forward to developing the script soon and signing a director. We are hoping within the next three years it will be released.”

Barber went on to say the studio will “look forward to announcing a director soon”, with a rather sizeable pair of shoes to be filled following Sam Mendes’ announcement that he will not be returning behind the camera.

While Mendes might have left, he may yet have some input in the film, having hatched an idea for a story with writer John Logan. Logan himself will be staying on to pen the script, so Mendes’ influence may yet be felt…

In the meantime, it's time to start speculating as to who might take his place in the director’s chair. As ever, share your suggestions with us in the comments below…

Das Remake von Hitchcocks "Rebecca" hat einen Regisseur... 

 

 

EXCLUSIVE: Dreamworks has set Nikolaj Arcel to direct Rebecca, a remake of the 1940 Alfred Hitchcock film. The picture, which has a script draft by Eastern Promises scribe Steven Knight, is being produced by Working Title partners Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner.

 

Arcel is coming off A Royal Affair, a film that made the short list for the most recent Best Foreign Language Film Oscars, about the queen of an erratic king of Denmark who carries on with her husband’s private doctor in a dangerous affair. Arcel and Rasmus Heisterberg also scripted the Swedish The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Based on the Daphne Du Maurier novel, the original Rebecca focused on a naive young woman who marries a rich widower and moves into his mansion, only to discover that the memory of the first wife is maintaining a grip on her husband and the servants. It starred Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine, and it won the Best Picture Oscar. Arcel and Heisterberg are also attached to helm and write an adaptation of the Don Winslow bestseller The Power Of The Dog, which is expected to be their next film. Rebecca would follow.

 

There will likely be one quick rewrite, but Arcel’s hire has young actresses already beginning to circle the film. Arcel is repped by WME and United Agents.

War klar, das man den sich ziemlich schnell in die USA holen wird. Das es nun ein Remake (neben dem anderen, geplanten Projekt) sein muss ok, kenne übrigens das Original von Hitchcock noch gar nicht, aber das Prozedere kennt man ja mit vielen europäischen Regisseuren.

OJe, was war denn da los:

 

Chalk this up as some instantly legendary Hollywood news. Lynne Ramsay has no-showed Natalie Portman western "Jane Got a Gun" on day one of shooting out in Santa Fe, New Mexico. As Mike Fleming writes in his exclusive report, directors leaving production is hardly unheard of, but not showing up on the very first day is a bit, uh, unique.

Apparently everyone - cast, crew, etc. - is still down there and the producers are scrambling to get another director on board ASAP. I'm bummed out, though, because Ramsay seemed like a great fit for this material. The script was written by Brian Duffield (who, full disclosure, formerly contributed to In Contention) and it's a stripped down example in the genre, but special given the strength of its female protagonist. That's why I always thought Ramsay was quite the get.

Not only that but, as you've heard from me before, I'm desperate to see the western succeed again. Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" breathed some more life into it last year, after the Coen brothers did the same with "True Grit" in 2010. And I'm scared to death of "The Lone Ranger," expensive as hell right around the corner and threatening to stall the genre if it bombs as a result of that price tag.

Who knows what's really going on here. Ramsay can be quite the firecracker. Did she just oversleep? (Kidding.) Calling all of this "an irresponsible act by one person," producer Scott Steindorff tells Fleming, "I have millions of dollars invested, we’re ready to shoot, we have a great script, crew and cast. I’m shocked and so disappointed someone would do this to 150 crew members who devoted so much time, energy, commitment and loyalty to a project, and then have the director not show up. It is insane somebody would do this to other people. I feel more for the crew and their families, but we are keeping the show going on, directors are flying in, and a replacement is imminent."

Of course, that's one side of the story, expertly handed to Deadline for the purposes of publicizing it. But it's a big moment. And it could be a bad one for Ramsay if it gets her blacklisted in any way as a result. Of course, she's always marched to the beat of her own drummer. Nevertheless, I imagine more about this story will out some day, perhaps sooner than later.

Portman is set to star alongside Jude Law and Joel Edgerton in the film, if and when it gets back up and running.

Neuer Tim Burton-Film in Planung.. 

 

 

Director Tim Burton’s long-developing biopic Big Eyes is finally moving forward.  The filmmaker first became attached to the pic back in 2010, when he sparked to a script by Ed Wood scribes Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski that he intended to produce.  The film’s story focuses on the artistic coupling of Margaret and Walter Keane.  Walter became famous in the 1950s and 60s for paintings featuring saucer-eyed kids, though it was the shy Margaret who really did the work.  Margaret eventually tired of the misplaced credit, which led to a divorce and a heated court battle to prove authorship of the paintings.

 

Ryan Reynolds and Reese Witherspoon became attached to play the couple early last year, but now a different promising duo of actors will be bringing The Keanes to life on the big screen with Burton in the director’s chair, as Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams have signed on to topline the pic.  Hit the jump for more.

 

Per Deadline, Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams are set to star in Big Eyes with Burton directing.  This is a stellar bit of casting, and both actors are coming off of Academy Award nominations for fantastic work in last year’s Django Unchained and The Master respectively, with Waltz taking home the gold for Best Supporting Actor in his second collaboration with Quentin Tarantino.  Burton had yet to commit to his next project as recently as last fall when he was nearing the end of a rather exhausting year that saw the release of two Burton films: Dark Shadows and Frankenweenie.

 

The filmmaker is also developing a Beetlejuice sequel and a new take on Pinocchio with Robert Downey Jr., but he has now settled on Big Eyes as his next project with filming set to get underway this spring.  Moreover, The Weinstein Company has come aboard to handle financing and distribution for the indie.  Though Burton certainly has a flair for visuals with larger, genre-oriented studio properties, I’m very, very excited about the prospect of him tackling a smaller-scale drama like Big Eyes.

Fantasy ist jenseits der etablierten Marken (LOTR und Co.) mittlerweile auch keine sichere Bank mehr. Ich würde dem Genre allerdings nicht nachtrauern, wenn es nach gut einem Jahrzehnt wieder für eine Weile in der Versenkung verschwindet.
