In THE LAST STATION, from the novel by Jay Parini, the final year of Russian socialist writer Leo Tolstoy comes to the screen with Christopher Plummer in the lead role. The central issue is the status of Tolstoy's will as regards the custody of his literary estate. Long assumed to be the provenance of his wife, the Countess Sofya (Helen Mirren), it's now being claimed by Tolstoy's chief disciple, Chertkov (Paul Giamatti), as the rightful property of the Russian people. Very close, he believes, to getting the old man to sign away his life's work to the public domain, Chertkov engages the fastidious, worshipful young Valentin (James McAvoy) to become the writer's new assistant and Chertkov's spy, obliged to record and report everything said in the fraught household.

The classically beautiful score by St. Petersberg composer Sergey Yevtushenko captures the majesty of the Russian landscape and the drama of Tolstoys life.

Sony Pictures Classics opens THE LAST STATION for Academy consideration in limited release on December 23, going wide in January 2010.

At the heart of Everybodys Fine is the theme of family and physical and emotional distances traveled to bring the members back together.

The touching and beautiful score is from Academy Award®-winning composer Dario Marianelli (Atonement).

Jane (Meryl Streep) is the mother of three grown kids, owns a thriving Santa Barbara bakery/restaurant and has after a decade of divorce an amicable relationship with her ex-husband, attorney Jake (Alec Baldwin). But when Jane and Jake find themselves out of town for their sons college graduation, things start to get complicated. An innocent meal together turns into the unimaginable an affair. With Jake remarried to the much younger Agness (Lake Bell), Jane is now, of all things, the other woman.

Caught in the middle of their renewed romance is Adam (Steve Martin), an architect hired to remodel Janes kitchen. Healing from a divorce of his own, Adam starts to fall for Jane, but soon realizes hes become part of a love triangle.

The lively and romantic score is from Academy Award winner Hans Zimmer and guitarist Heitor Pereira.

Universal Pictures opens ITS COMPLICATED nationwide on Christmas Day.

Mein beileid. Interessant, dass der name zimmer in den augen der verantwortlichen offenbar nicht stark genug ist um ein "music inspired by the film" album zu tragen, von dem die hälfte der tracks garnicht im film vorkommt.

Wieviele scores kennst du, zu denen ein score release angekündigt, dann gecancelt wurde und ein anderes label direkt danach die veröffentlichung übernommen hat? Also mir fällt da nichts ein (mal abgesehen von jahrzehnte später erscheinenden limited editions).

Es wird schon seine gründe haben warum varese so kurz vor dem release termin das album gecancelt hat. Ford dazu:

Given what I've heard how she treats composers (Alan Silvestri comes to mind) , it would not surprise me that Zimmer and company scored the film and she decided at the last minute to dump major portions his score in favor or songs or perhaps even other licensed pieces that VARESE couldn't clear for their album.

It's also POSSIBLE that she had some say over the soundtrack album content and this is why they had to cancel since so much of the score didn't end up in the final version of the film.

This is of course just a wild guess on part, I could of course be wrong, but this seem rather odd thing to happen so late in the game.

Ja wird wohl so sein... schade, dass man sich auch nicht für eine digitale Veröffentlichung durchringen kann (evtl. noch mit "unused" tracks welche im "Final Cut" nicht vorkommen).

Genau das verstehe ich an der sache nicht. Wenn der score im film durch songs ersetzt wurde, warum veröffentlicht man das album nicht trotzdem als "music inspired by"?

Naja, das verstehe wer es wolle. Anscheinend darf sich jetzt scheinbar zimmer mit den stimmungsschwankungen von frau meyers rumärgern. Da fragt man sich wer als nächstes kommt. Ironie des Schicksals.

Vom Prinzip her ist damals bei der von Varése geplanten CD zu LUCKY YOU (C. Young) nichts anderes passiert.

Im Film ist kaum Score drin geblieben und schwups wurde auch die Score CD gestrichen.

Dass die CD zu Zimmers Score gestrichen wurde, hat nur indirekt mit Nancy Meyers zu tun. Sie hat zwar offensichtlich fast die ganze Musik gestrichen/ersetzt, aber die Streichung der CD hat jemand anders entschieden.
