Gerücht - Rhino-Reissues im April von Sony (Poltergeist, Ben-Hur, ...)

Bei JPC sind für April ein paar schon länger vergriffene Rhino-CDs als Midprice-CD angekündigt, vertrieben von Sony Classical. Darunter auch Goldsmiths Poltergeist für €11,99.

Sehr schön, besonders über POLTERGEIST und GONE WITH THE WIND freue ich mich. Von letzterem Score wollte ich schon immer mal die 2 CD-Ausgabe haben, aber die war so verdammt schwierig zu bekommen.

So geht es mir auch. Ist aber sehr schön, dass nun viele kostengünstig an die Musiken rankommen und nicht horrende Preise für einige der alten CDs zahlen müssen. Bleibt noch abzuwarten, ob die dicken informativen Booklets, die es bei Rhino gab, bei Sony abgespeckt werden.

Bei Poltergeist sehe ich das Reissue mit einem weinenden Auge. Ich hatte auf ein neues Release (z.B. von FSM oder Intrada) gehöfft, diesmal von den digitalen Bändern gezogen und eventuell als Bonus eine CD mit Goldsmiths hervorragendem Albumschnitt dabei. Die Rhino war von einer analogen Kopie gezogen und leider klanglich nicht so dynamisch wie die alte LP.

Lukas Kendall hat die Sony-Veröffentlichungen übrigens quasi bestätigt:

This is part of a deal recently made to distribute the Turner catalog in international territories. In other words, it's the same material that Rhino has been issuing, and FSM too. Sounds like for ease of production they are reusing Rhino masters. It does not affect our ongoing production of Turner titles.

Mein Kommentar war eigentlich auch auf Hildegunst uns sein "weinendes Auge" bezogen. Ist wohl etwas durcheinander geraten hier. Habe auch vergessen zu zitieren. ;)

Gerade verklang die letzte Sekunde des 2 1/2-stündigen Doppel-Albums von "Vom Winde verweht" (dürfte ewig her sein, dass ich die mal komplett gehört habe). Natürlich ist das ein ganz bemerkenswertes Album zu einer ganz großen Musik, allerdings gibt's natürlich auch hier Durststrecken, die hin und wieder von lichten Momenten unterbrochen werden (Besonders die 45 min. seit Rhetts Abschied von Scarlett nach der Flucht aus Atlanta bis zum Reitunfall des Mister O'Hara). Zum ersten Mal fiel mir nun auch die wundervolle Variation über Melanies Thema in "Melanie's Death" auf, aber leider leider sind ja sehr starke Geräuscheffekte wie Türenschlagen etc. zu hören. Wenn es sich um simple Neuveröffentlichungen der Rhino-CDs handelt, dann wird dieser Fehler auch auf den neuen CDs sein...schade.

POLETERGEIST ist wirklich ne schöne brachial-martialische Musik (die trotzdem irgendwo "melodisch" in sich ist) und dazu noch dieser wunderschöne positive euphorische Bicycle-Ride, der einfach ohrwurmig ist. Herrlich.

Kann ich nur ausdrücklich empfehlen! GONE WITH THE WIND und BEN HUR gehören in jede Sammlung. Besonders der Rozsa-Score wartet zudem mit einer großartigen Soundqualität auf.

Absolut! Habe mir gerade nochmal die "Ben-Hur"-Doppel-CD angehört und kann jedes Wort nur unterstreichen. Absolut brillante Klangqualität für das Alter, von jeder Aufnahme wurde die längste verfügbare Version gemacht, auch viele Minuten im Film nicht verwendeter Musik sind chronologisch wieder eingefügt und die Musik selbst ist natürlich über nahezu jeden Zweifel in Hinblick auf Rozsas Schaffen und Filmmusik allgemein erhaben. Wenn man sich diese Riesenwerk einmal von vorne bis hinten anhört merkt man, wie viel dort drin steckt und wie filigran der Komponist hier zu Werke ging. Dagegen klingt "Ivanhoe" doch schon recht plump und auch mit "König der Könige" konnte Rozsa diese Qualität nicht mehr erreichen.

Werden jetzt nur diese bedeutenden Werke wieder aufgelegt, oder sind jetzt auch die limiterten CDs wie "Ivanhoe" und "Der Schatz der Sierra Madre" in nicht limitierter Auflage verfügbar? Wie sieht's aus mit "How the West was won", "Singin' in the rain" und "König der Könige"?

Genau genommen waren die ja von Rhino Handmade und nicht von Rhino. Abwarten, ob die auch kommen.

2001: A Space Odyssey t Composers: Various

Winner – BAFTA for Best Soundtrack

While the score is always integral to its film, director Stanley Kubrick elevated music from soundtrack to character in his 1968 masterpiece, 2001: A Space Odyssey. Kubrick jettisoned much of the film’s dialogue and instead used works from core classical repertoire to illustrate mood and character motivation as well as to highlight the film’s motifs.

Kubrick created a masterful marriage of the sound and the visual, but perhaps these three moments are the most striking and memorable:

* Richard Strauss’ Also Sprach Zarathustra, which evokes the film’s major theme of transition, from the startling opening scene to the ape’s evolution, through man’s ultimate transformation to star-child

* Setting the choreography of the spaceship docking sequence to Johann Strauss’ The Blue Danube waltz

* Hal 9000’s rendition of “Daisy Bell”, a heartbreaking scene which spurs the viewer to question what makes one human, what makes one machine?

This version of the soundtrack to 2001: A Space Odyssey also includes modernist composer György Ligeti’s Requiem, Lux Aeterna and Jupiter and Beyond, Adagio from Aram Khachaturian’s Gayane Ballet Suite and the complete Hal 9000 dialogue montage.

Blow-Up t Composer: Herbie Hancock

Herbie Hancock’s Swingin’ 60s Score

Italian director Michelangelo Antonioni called upon jazz-pianist Herbie Hancock to compose and perform the score for his first English-language film, Blow-Up. Hancock is not only one of the greatest active jazz musicians, but one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. His music embraces elements of funk and soul while adopting the freer stylistic elements of jazz. His compositions are the perfect accompaniment to Antonioni’s tale of a photographer’s accidental and incidental involvement with a murder, set in swinging 60s London.

This edition of Blow-Up: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack features Hancock’s score, songs from The Yardbirds and Lovin’ Spoonful, and outtakes.

“How did they ever make a movie of Lolita?”

also poltergeist zu einem humanen preis ist schon cool. die ben hur deluxe edition ist schon seit einigen jahren teil meiner sammlung. die soundquali ist wirklich top für diese originalaufnahme. wirklich ein must have.

Ben-Hur ist seltsamerweise aus dem Pressetext erstmal verschwunden. Zwar ganz am Anfang des Textes erwähnt, aber unter den aufgelisteten Titeln der ersten Veröffentlichungen steht er nicht. Somit wohl verschoben. Abzuwarten ist allerdings, ob davon wirklich die großartige 2CD-Fassung neu veröffentlicht wird oder der Zusammenschnitt des Materials als abgespeckte 1CD-Fassung, den es damals schon in England gab.
