LEGEND OF THE LOST

Music Composed by Angelo Francisco Lavagnino

Legend Of The Lost was produced by John Waynes Batjac Productions, and starred the Duke and Rosanno Brazzi as the two men. The dame was Sophia Loren, and the fourth character was the Sahara desert. Its an odd film, both intimate (basically a three-character drama) and epic (the Sahara) a tale of treasure, lust, and sand, not necessarily in that order. Wayne plays a guide in hock up to his ears to the police captain in Timbuktu, Loren plays a woman who has been known to pick pockets and pick up men, and Brazzi plays a man in search of his long-lost father, who, in search of a Lost City has presumably perished in the desert. Oh, and the treasure theres always the treasure that the long-lost father was in search of. Its actually a very entertaining film, with Duke his usual heroic self, Loren looking luscious whether traipsing in the sand or bathing by moonlight, and Brazzi feeling tortured and tormented. Henry Hathaway, with whom Wayne did many films, directed, and the film was gorgeously photographed by the brilliant Jack Cardiff in Technirama and Technicolor.

The score was by Italys Angelo Francesco Lavagnino. Lavagnino was one of Italys finest film composers and certainly one of its most prolific, beginning his career in 1948. His voice was unique one could always tell a Lavagnino score immediately. His music is exotic and melodic and unique. Some of his best work included the films The Naked Maja, The Last Days of Pompeii, The Colossus of Rhodes, Esther and the King, Imperial Venus, Orson Welles Chimes at Midnight, and tons of sword-and-sandal films, Italian sci-fi, and spaghetti westerns. Standing tall among his scores is Legend Of The Lost. His music for the film is dreamy, mysterious, romantic, and captures the moods of the nights and days of the desert almost like a tone poem. You can feel the heat beating down in the music, feel the shifting of the sands, feel the passion of two men in love with the same woman Lavagninos melodies are sinuous and sensual.

The tapes for Legend Of The Lost are long lost but thankfully about thirty-two of the films forty minutes of music was found in Italy and it is those thirty-two minutes we present here. Even though wed love to say its the complete score, we figured thirty-two minutes is better than no minutes, especially of primo Lavagnino. Missing were the films main title, which weve taken from the DVD, and even though we had the films final cue in its entirety it was missing the choral overlay, so weve included a bit of that, also from the DVD. Sound is in clean, crisp mono.

Äh, Blödsinn, ist natürlich von Angelo Francesco Lavagnino. So ein Quark, ich höre gerade Nascimbenes Barabbas. Hat mein Gehirn verknotet. Kann ein Admin bitte das korrigieren. Peinlich!

Und noch eine Neupressung! So langsam wird es lästig und die Label sollten vielleicht nur einmal das Endprodukt checken, bevor es ausgeliefert wird. Bei Legend Of The Lost hat das Presswerk die CD mit Last Man On Earth bedruckt.

Here's what's happened - I think this may be the last thing we do with our pressing plant - they seem to have put the label film for Last Man On Earth on the Legend of the Lost CD itself. The packaging is all correct, the music on the CD is correct, only the label film is incorrect. So, my question is - I can make them repress the entire run with the correct label film if that's what people want - it wouldn't bother me personally, but if it does others I'll make them do it and send out discs to everyone.

Okay, here's what I decided - I just ordered the plant to repress all the discs. For anyone who's purchased from dealers other than Kritzerland, they should have replacement CDs by the time they get their shipments, or within a day or two thereafter. So, you'll get the correct disc art and you can just toss the wrong one or use it as a coaster. For people who ordered from us, you don't have to do anything. We'll get the names and addresses to the plant and they will send yours out directly.

Someone, I'm sure, will be fired for this screwup, although I guess these things happen - how they happen is anyone's guess.

Erst Fehlpressung, dann fehlende Titel zum Downloaden: so schlampige Arbeit ist man von Bruce Kimmel nicht gewohnt. Liegt vielleicht an der derzeitigen Veröffentlichungsdichte.

Na Ralf, also Du hast doch von mir sicher noch den ersten LP-Transfer. Hör doch mal bei Deiner LEGEND-Überspielung in den dortigen Track 6 rein und dann sprechen wir uns wieder, was Knistern und Knacksen betrifft.

Da ist das hier denn doch eine deutliche Verbesserung!

Nein, keine Kassette, da liegst Du völlig falsch!

Du erinnnerst Dich doch noch, als Du vor rund 4 Jahren mal hier warst mit Deinem Notebook. Da ist doch eine ganze Menge von Dir kopiert worden. Nun klarer, was ich meine?

Da müßte z.B. auf Deiner CDR neben den 11 LEGEND-Tracks so was wie AMERICA PAGANA (Nascimbene), ANGELA (Nascimbene), PAROLA DI LADRO (Nascimbene) und L'OCEANO CI CHIAMA (Lavagnino) noch oben sein. Das müßte doch in Deinem penibelst sortierten Archiv zu finden sein, oder?

Genau, endlich hats geschnackelt!

Und die 11 Tracks von LEGEND, die da oben sind auf Deinem Vol. 12, hättte man so nicht für die Kritzerland-CD hernehmen können. Das war damals noch mein erster Transfer mit tonnenweise Geknister und Geknackse und auch dumpfer, weil die Ausgangs-LPs in ziemlich schlechtem Zustand waren. Erst später habe ich noch einen zweiten LP-Transfer bekommen, der eben qualitativ deutlich besser ist und den man deshalb auch für die offizielle CD nehmen konnte.
