Bin als Silver Ager vorsichtig zuversichtlich, den Namen Charles Fox hier zu lesen. Habe vor allem drei Scores immer noch auf der Liste. The Laughing Policeman, The Other Side of the Mountain Pt. 2 und natürlich Two-Minute Warning -  ein Fall für die Universal Heritage-Reihe?

Geht alles eigentlich genauso überraschungs- und keimfrei weiter wie dieses Jahr schon. Horner ist sozusagen jetzt der Goldsmith-Ersatz bei den US-Labels - und wenn von Williams nicht wenigstens RARE BREED dabei ist, werde ich wohl wie dieses Jahr auch so gut wie keine neue Intrada-CD mehr kaufen. Außer es käme vielleicht an 2024 noch eine interessante Kickstarter-Aktion bezüglich eines Golden Age-Scores in die Gänge, aber das dauert ja dann auch wieder ewig bis so eine CD überhaupt erscheint.

Charles Fox wird doch garantiert wieder ein Reissue sein, entweder von 9 TO FIVE oder von FOUL PLAY. Die alte Intrada-CD von ersterem ist inzwischen bei Discogs ganz schön teuer geworden - von daher könnte es sogar darauf rauslaufen. Ist nämlich auch schon wieder 15 Jahre her seit der CD-Erstausgabe.

Ich denke mal, dass FIEVEL GOES WEST von Horner nun nachgeschoben wird. Bei weiteren James Horner tippe ich auf Expandierungen der 90er Jahre aufwärts und den nicht so großen Holy Grails: Thunderheart, Flightplan, The Devil´s Own, A Beautiful mind,...

Mein persönliches Highlight wäre eine expandierte Ausgabe zu BICENTENNIAL MAN. Dann kann auch das Stiefelbein endlich weg.

Foul Play ist hoffentlich raus, da der Score 2016 schon zum zweiten Mal auf Intrada war. Two-Minute Warning ist aber hoffentlich nicht ganz auszuschließen.

Auf irgendwelche Kickstarter-Projekte setze ich überhaupt keine Hoffnungen, so zäh wie das immer abläuft. Selbst wenn sie nächstes Jahr etwas angehen, würde das nicht vor 2025 aus dem Presswerk kommen.

Perseverance Records (PEGI) has teamed up with Spectral Shimmers Productions and the James Horner Estate to record and release renditions of the legendary film composer’s early, unreleased musical works through PerseveranceRecords.com.

The Colorado-based label will produce original arrangements of Horner’s The Dresser (1981) and The Hand (1983) – two previously unreleased titles, and the first in a series of original concert pieces, followed by 1979’s The Lady in Red, plus a surprise fourth previously unreleased work, written in the early phase of Horner’s iconic career, which, by many accounts is considered to be the nucleus of his unparalleled success.

Grammy-nominated conductor Matt Dunkley and prolific orchestrator Nikiforos Chrysoloras will be taking the reins of this formidable project, bringing their expertise to rediscover Horner’s works and highlighting their commitment to honoring his legacy by bringing his music to fans and new audiences. Dunkley enthused, “I’m excited to have been asked by Perseverance Records to conduct some of their new recording projects, especially re-discovering these amazing scores by James Horner.”

Chrysoloras, having arranged the world premiere the Legends of the Fall suite, as well as other Horner scores, is coming to the project fresh from Perseverance’s musical journey down the Jerry Goldsmith and Michael Kamen lanes, for whom he produced a 14-minute Alien suite (orchestrated and performed as Goldsmith had envisioned it before his score received the treatment everyone knows about) and a 10-minute Suite from Highlander.

Sara Horner, the late composer’s widow, said, “I am so pleased to see James’ work continue to excite audiences around the world. The recordings by Perseverance and Spectral Shimmers Productions of two of his most beautiful scores is an occasion to celebrate. The Dresser is a beautiful gem and deserves a wider audience. The Hand was his first foray into a major motion picture. Both of these scores, in their own way, offer listeners a unique experience.

“I am very pleased that Perseverance Records, Nikiforos Chrysoloras and Spectral Shimmers Productions are collaborating on this project. Perseverance’s track record speaks for itself. Their enthusiasm, skill and passion for film music as an art form are all a perfect fit for James’ music. Nikiforos’ talents as an arranger is matched only by his deep understanding of James’ musical world.

“Following the success of James’ concert piece, Spectral Shimmers, and the outstanding concert produced by Torodd Wigum and Kim Spildrejorde of SSP, and the James Horner Film Music Association at the Szczecin Concert Hall in 2022, a new wave of interest in James’ music has been born. With this new partnership and recordings a new endeavor begins – a truly exciting tribute to James’ rich compositional career.”

Reflecting on Horner’s score for The Dresser, written by famed playwright and screenwriter Sir Ronald Harwood, his daughter Alexandra, an accomplished composer herself, endorses the Perseverance project in the upcoming release’s liner notes as a heartfelt homage to both her father and Horner, akin to preserving a piece of their shared history that celebrates their friendship and collaboration, which began in the 1960s and culminated in the Oscar-nominated film.

Also in the works is the complete series of Horner’s concert works that he composed during his 37-year career, as well as a compete re-recording of a science-fiction score that will get the definitive performance treatment. This initiative marks the first in a series highlighting Horner’s original concert compositions and a complete re-recording of a classic sci-fi score.

Perseverance’s founder and producer Robin Esterhammer says, “All of us are beyond thrilled to be working with Sara and the Horner Estate on these recordings. We are joining them in giving the music the respect and treatment it deserves while making it available to the multitude of James’ fans as well as the general public.”

The project, slated to begin in early 2024, will be partly funded through Kickstarter campaigns, promising to revive and celebrate James Horner’s rich musical heritage.

Typisches PR-Geschwurbel, erinnert mich irgendwie an das untergegangene Stylotone Label. Das sind also alles erstmal Absichtserklärungen. Es wäre mal schön gewesen, abseits all dieser Erklärungen direkt eine Kickstarter-Kampagne zu starten. Oder direkt als Beispiele bereits fertig produzierte Aufnahmen zu haben. Sie schreiben doch "partly funded through Kickstarter campaigns". Also könnte über diese anderen Geldmittel schon was produziert sein. Scheinbar nicht der Fall. Naja, mal abwarten. Hatte mir neulich auch online das Konzert aus Polen mit den frühen Konzertwerken A Forest Passage und Spectral Shimmers angesehen. Nett, mehr aber auch nicht.

Wenn ich das im Text richtig verstehe, dann ist mit dem Re-Recording nicht unbedingt ein bisher unveröffentlichter Score gemeint. Sondern ein „classic" Science-Fiction-Score, der jetzt endlich so eingespielt werden kann, wie er es verdient. Welche klassischen Sci-Fi-Scores von Horner „leiden" denn unter der Performance? Doch BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS? KRULL? STAR TREK II?

Mit "Orion" ist nur die Firma Orion Pictures gemeint, die etwa THE HAND an 1981 produziert hatten.

Wenn ich richtig informiert bin, ist 'The Dresser' sehr kurz und könnte nur mit einem anderen Score in Kombination veröffentlicht werden. 

Insgesamt irre, dass sich alle Label so sehr auf Horner einschießen.

Ich hatte per Email vor vielen Jahren zwei- oder dreimal Kontakt mit Esterhammer. Ich habe selten einen Menschen erlebt, der so völlig von sich selbst überzeugt war. Worte und Taten klaffen bei dem Label extrem auseinander. Warten wir ab, was aus diesem Projekt in ein paar Monaten oder Jahren wird, wenn es denn kommt.

Perseverance hat nunmal eine Geschichte. Ich hätte mehr Vertrauen in die Sache, wenn es neben dem Geschwurbel direkt konkret werden würde. Warum hat man nicht parallel eine Kickstarter-Aktion organisiert? Oder mit dem Geld des Estates Beispiele als Anreiz aufegenommen? Um zu zeigen, welches Orchester es sein wird, welche Qualität zu erwarten ist usw. Den Horners oder den Machern geht es hoffentlich nicht um Profit, da ist nichts zu holen. Das war z.B. auch 2008 schon so, als Tadlow El Cid aufgenommen hat. James Fitzpatrick hat damals in einem Interview erzählt, dass er dafür das Rozsa Estate brauchte und den Kindern des Komponisten klar machen musste, dass damit kein Dollar zu verdienen sein wird.

Aber wie gesagt, abwarten und sehen, wie der erste Kickstarter laufen wird. Vermutlich werden genügend "Backer" aufzutreiben sein.

Sehe ich ähnlich, bei Thunderball allerdings könnte ich schwach werden. Die EMI Expandierungen vor 20 Jahren waren seinerzeit ja vieldiskutiert und Lukas Kendall wurde gerade bei diesem Score durch die Vorgabe "eine CD" ausgebremst. Für mich Barrys wichtigste Arbeit für die Bond-Reihe.

Für LLL sicher eine große Sache, Zugang zu diesem Katalog zu haben.

Gab ja damals auch reichlich Ärger bei der Veröffentlichung von Slipstream. Bootleg oder keins? Wurde auch hier im Board zum Teil heißblütig diskutiert.
